The most complete collection of music from the Street Fighter EX game series ------------- I remember being skeptical when first hearing about Street Fighter venturing into 3D territory, as I still preferred its fighting system over slower boxy brawlers like Virtua Fighter or Tekken. However, I was pleasantly surprised by the first Street Fighter EX game and fed it quite a few of my quarters. Critics also kept throwing good reviews at the series, praising every version right up to the last:...

The music for Super Castlevania IV was composed by Masanori Adachi and Taro Kudo (credited as Masanori Oodachi and Taro respectively). Ueno wanted to make the environment of Super Castlevania IV more interactive and was proud of how the game's sound effects and music contributed to the atmosphere. It was released on Akumajō Dracula Best 2 in a compilation with Castlevania: The Adventure and Castlevania II: Belmont's Revenge's music. The most complete collection of music from the Comix Zone games ------------- Comix Zone was a special game, in that we hadn't really seen anything quite like it before. While we had movies like Who Framed Roger Rabbit that blurred a line between cartoons and film, we didn't have any sort of comparable media crossover in games yet. Along came this title, which tells of a grunge rocker and artist named (deep breath) Sketch Turner, who gets sucked into a comic book world of his own creation,...

Continuing the tradition set by the first game, Wipeout 3 contains electronica offerings from various artists, including The Chemical Brothers, Orbital, and the Propellerheads. Psygnosis' development manager, Enda Carey, focused on bringing together music early in the game's development cycle, instead of as an afterthought or last-minute addition to the game. Unlike previous soundtracks, Psygnosis selected a single music director, DJ Sasha, who worked with artists to create a cohesive...

The most complete collection of music from the "Mario Paint / Mario Artist" series ------------- I have incredibly fond memories of "Mario Paint," a cart for the SNES that came with (of all things back then) a mouse! Rather than a standard game, it was an application that let you draw, paint, color, animate, and make music. The most complete collection of music from the retro PC game "Bureau 13" ------------- Don't feel bad if you're unfamiliar with this game - It is as unknown today as it was back when it was released in 1995. The most complete collection of music from the Interstate and Vigilante 8 game series ------------- Interstate '76 was a really interesting 3D vehicular combat game that hit the PC market when that genre was already really hot, but the post oil crisis setting, late '70s timeframe, and incredible band-recorded funk soundtrack really set it apart. If you haven't given it a try, hunt it down and put some rockets on your hood! Activision reached out to Arion Salazar (who would later become the bass...

Akira Yamaoka composed the music for Silent Hill 2 . At his home, Yamaoka took three days to write the music for "Theme of Laura", Silent Hill 2's main theme, by combining "a sad melody" and "a strong beat", although he does not consider the melody to be the "most important" element of a musical piece. He wanted the music to evoke emotions in the player. Silent Hill 2 makes extensive use of sound effects ranging from screams to footsteps on broken glass....

A massive collection of music from my favorite MS-DOS Shareware games ------------- I was a total shareware kid! While a lot of my generation's youth had at least one gaming console in their house growing up, some of us were also lucky enough to have (ridiculously priced at the time) family computers as well. With the advent of MS-DOS came a giant experience in my videogame history: PC titles. In an age where entertainment technology was really starting to pick up, the industry was full of...

The most complete collection of music from the Myst game series ------------- Myst came along in a time where visually realistic adventure games were just starting to hit, and we were simply not ready for its immersive awesomeness when it arrived. An incredibly compelling mystery that included a narrative you had to discover in pieces, Myst featured puzzles you -just knew- you would be able to figure out if you thought hard enough (sometimes for hours). The beauty and sounds seemed to be all...

A massive collection of demo music from retro sound cards, drivers, and music software ------------- Back in the day, when not all computer audio was created equally, everyone wanted the absolute best sound card on the market. It could make a vast difference in your desktop experience if you played a game listening to a PC speaker versus hearing it come thumping out of a Sound Blaster 16, for example. It was an exciting time for gaming as well as the age of multimedia and digital music...

A massive collection of winter holiday music from and about retro videogames ------------- A minty, chocolate-covered compilation to get retro gamers into the spirit of the holidays! Now updated to DOUBLE the amount of songs! It’s always been a tradition of mine to play chiptuney covers of Christmas music and tracks from old videogames that remind me of this time of year, loudly and proudly to grimacing family members and houseguests.
