Subject: Incredible First Show
The recording is a little boxy, but you get over it.
I really like Built to Last, but the only rendition I've ever heard that was any good was on the album. At least Garcia remembered most of the words this time. It's a bit of a tongue-twister, but show me a BTL they played really well and I'll have one less search in my life.
Subject: A nice closing nite!
Unfortunetly all we got was teased but it had some nice moments!
Subject: Declaration of the Big One
But where things get really evident is in the jam right out of Scarlet, where Wier, playing a midi tone often used by Jerry, plays the melody of Dark Star in harmony with the Scarlet theme.
The next major declaration of Dark Star comes in the latter part of the Other One, where the band begins melting into space right before Wharf Rat. Here is a bright example of the Dead reworking the way they think their music. Perhaps they were recording Built to Last at this time, one by one going into the studio to edit their parts, changing their ideas in response to the changes of the other members of the band. One note and phrase at a time. This is a very transformed band, and without saying a word, they declared that Dark Star was ready to emerge from hybernation.
Lovelight is fun, and, as always, in need of rehearsal. Knockin' is a good one as well, more enthusiastic and dynamic than usual.
