A great pre-K book!
The brightly colored oil pastel illustrations make this book a particular draw for young pre-K readers. Told through the eyes of a young boy, children learn the steps of getting dressed, asking for help, and heading outside to play. As soon as you open the book, a bright orange background sets the stage, “It’s time to get dressed. First I put on my underwear. Then I put on my socks, one foot at a time.” (p1) At just ten pages, this book is a great starter for parents to read to their children. The lines are short and punchy enough that with repetition, children can easily memorize the book and “read” along with their parents. This book also features a black protagonist with his mother, and is a great way for all readers to see characters of color grace their everyday tasks. With bright African-style borders, this book is both visually pleasing and to the point. In essence, this is how we all get dressed.
