Surprisingly, this is a frank and honest--albeit dated--look at sex, love, and behavior written by African-Americans for the African-American audience. According to Righteous propagation: African Americans and the politics of racial destiny by Michele Mitchell, "[B]lack advice literature produced after 1900 became somewhat willing to touch upon the charged and taboo...Afro-American advice literature authors began to broach ever more sensitive subjects--albeit in euphemism at times--in the years immediately following the initiation publication of [this book] in 1903."
