The most interesting town history I have ever read.
I do genealogy as a hobby, and end up reading through town histories more than anyone in their right mind would. Usually, they contain a minute description of the town, pages and pages of summaries of town meetings, butt-kissing stories about the wealthiest people in town, a few token stories about those wacky poor, a bunch of vital records, and that's about it. This book, though? This book gives you the important info about the town, yes, but the stories are HILARIOUS and the author is constantly injecting his own social, political and moral ramblings. It is, without a doubt, the best town history I've ever read, despite the fact that it was completely useless to me as a genealogist.
