This "edutainment" package represents the strengths and weaknesses of increasingly popular CD-ROM software.
On the plus side, its images, sound and video bring science to life in a package that is fun, clever and nonthreatening. It is surprising how animating even the simplest things - the dance of the planets around the sun, or a rotating human skull - can be so compelling.
Players can watch their effective weight change on a roller coaster, view film clips or microscopic slides, wander through Stonehenge, roam 150 connected rooms in a "hyper gallery" of science, and enter contests testing knowledge. This is as painless as learning gets.
But "Science Adventure" works better as a way to browse science than as an efficient school-project research tool. The 1,000 articles are a bit short, the typical CD-ROM pace a bit slow and the software doesn't quite match the search-and-linking elegance of a good encyclopedia program such as Microsoft "Encarta."...
The program attempts to serve ages from 6 to adult and players can toggle between kid-level and adult-level narration. For all but prodigies, however, this package works best for ages 10 or 12 and above.
On balance, this is an excellent way for parents and children to explore science. If users regard "Science Adventure II" as a fun museum and not a substitute for the library, they'll have a great time.

File has some probs but...
For file: SCIENCEV2.IMG, I got an error "The selected disc image file isn't valid." Tried to open with diff discs and diff software. Any suggestions?
Update: Ended up opening on older machine w ImgBurn 220.127.116.11 and got file errors, so had to burn 'on the fly'. Did burn, but not sure if the resulting disc is missing files or has errors.
