John Carter Brown Library - Chile Collection

While some ephemeral printing appeared in Chile at an earlier date, the first printing press arrived there fairly late, relative to other parts of Latin America. Towards the end of 1811, Mateo Hoevel imported a press from New York, and that press is seen as the first in Chile, producing Chile's first periodical, the Aurora de Chile. The JCB holds a complete run of this pioneering periodical, along with many other unique items.
