Digital Initiatives at LIU Post

The mission of the Digital Initiatives (DI) Department is to explore, develop and implement digital projects that will convert Long Island University¹s signature collections and academic resources into digital collections of permanent research value. Collections selected for digital projects contain objects that continue to have durable interest and research value to the academic community and beyond. Materials represent scholarly, cultural, and historical resources and contain rare or unique items.

Current projects include the William Randolph Hearst Archive and the Cedar Swamp Historical Society Collection. The William Randolph Hearst Archive consists of approximately 425 linear feet of rare art auction catalogs, albums, documents, photographs, aperture cards, and books that document the immense size and range of art items acquired by Hearst during his lifetime.
