Mountain View Public Library

The Mountain View History Center houses information about Mountain View's past. We collect and preserve books, maps, photographs, directories, newspapers, school yearbooks, and other materials pertaining to Mountain View's heritage. We display artifacts that reflect both the changing and enduring natures of the area once known as The Valley of the Heart’s Delight. The collection is owned jointly by the Library and the Mountain View Historical Association.

In the 1920s, Mario and his wife, Rosaria, settled in Mountain View and opened an olive oil factory, Ambra Olive Oil Company. When it opened, it was advertised as the largest on the Peninsula with 825 car spaces, 500 heaters and two box offices. The site at 1854 West El Camino Real was originally opened as Charlotte's, a restaurant, in the late 1930s by Morris and Charlotte Nathan. Description : Delphin Delmas (1844-1928) owned a 500-acre ranch near El Camino Real and Bernardo Avenue along the present-day Mountain View/Sunnyvale border. Mr. Delmas was a famous attorney who was said to have practiced his speeches at night in his vineyard. Antoine Delmas, Delphin's father, came to California. from France in the 1850s.
