NOTA BENE: Although popular monthly magazine that was large like Life Magazine and Look Magazine, one must bear in mind some of the fictional stories make fun of minorities and ads like the one for Al Jolson who wore burnt-cork make-up. One of the first talking motion pictures was "The Jazz Singer" with an actor portraying Al Jolson, such a film would probably not be make today?

This was a soft-cover spiral-bound booklet of eighty (80) pages, therefore have to scan it in three parts as there are dried mildew stamps, pen and pencil marks, etc., nothing in changed in the pictures nor the artwork. It has been restored as it would have appeared just the first time it was acquired. It was also dog-eared as it was used for reference repeatedly throughout it's life!

New York National Guard service uniforms were often cadet  grey in colour and during the U.S. Civil War their grey clad troops could be mistaken for southern rebels. The regular army adopted khaki service uniforms in 1898 also with epaulettes an cuffs in branch colour, khkai instead of cadet grey as seen here.
