Description : A melange of fascinating hippies animate Lipton's world in this provocative documentary kaleidoscope of Berkeley wit, defiance, insight, mania, obsession, and delusion ... a definite intimacy and spontaneity are maintained by the close, direct-eye-contact approach. The 'characters' stare unstintingly into the lens as they speak, and the effect is very much like standing toe-to-toe with someone during a conversation. This technique invests the film with a sense of familiar honesty...

First televised on KQED in April 1969. It was a highly effective synthesis of abstract visuals—chiefly Arlo Acton's spherical sculptures of glittering titanium—and a soundtrack on which Terry Riley played hypnotically repetitive music on a soprano saxophone together with the feedback from two tape machines. The Dilexi Series , originally broadcast over KQED in San Francisco in 1969 and 1970, represents one of the first efforts to present works created by artists specifically for television....

In this early, performance-based work, d'Agostino experiments with perceptions of landscape, time and point of view. The  Walk Series  documents three different "walks" (on a roof, a fence and a beach) that the artist took in the San Francisco area, while recording with a hand-held camera. These excursions — recorded in real-time and unedited — map the parameters of the artist's environment, as d'Agostino uses video to redefine the landscape in his own image. Referring to these...

In the summer of 1967, Mike McNamee, Glen McKay, and Scott Bartlett met for America's first electrovideographic jam. Bartlett's film loop and McKay's light show liquids were mixed through a video effects bank and the results were filmed by McNamee directly off the studio monitor with a rented kinescope camera. Bartlett edited a portion of this material and then built a soundtrack with the help of Tom DeWitt, who had also supplied many of the original film loops, and Manny Meyer, electronic...
