Subject: THE FLASHBACKS THEY PROMISED IN THE 60'S ACTUALLY HAPPENED!!
Phil's work with John Molo over the past few years has turned him from merely "The Dead's Bassist" (who was always great in my opinion), into a world-class bass player who can groove as hard as anyone I've ever had the privilege of hearing. While I love Hart/Kreutzmann and the Dead (for almost 40 years...first show at the Greek Theater @ UC Berkeley in 1967), Molo has given Phil a pocket so huge you could drive a truck thru it and Phil has hopped in and started driving is if he were Cowboy Neil himself. As a bass player myself with 40 years of playing experience and being rather heavily influenced by Phil's style and tone, I really appreciated the swing & groove and freedom of expression...it was a beautiful thing to hear!
It's especially nice to know that there's a bassist out there who can play other than the root and under/around the time and still groove so damn hard!
1. Phil - the tonemeister...amazing as always
2. Molo's chops & taste on drums
3. Chris Robinson....he rocks big time!
4. Barry Sless' solos on pedal steel
5. Strawberry Fields....flashback city!
6. St Stephen-it's been 30 years..thank you!!!
This show is a must for downloaders! Warning: do not drive or operate machinery while listening...side-effects include acid flashbacks!
Star rating is for show...recording quality is sub-par.
Subject: House of Noise
I really hope Phil will put this and SAT. 10th out for us on DSB, cause they are worth it, and i doubt there will be any good copies of this out there due to the horrible muffleness of the venue.
much better than the Newark shows, so let's cross our fingers. (star rating based on show not recording.)
Subject: long live john lennon!!!
COME PEOPLE FRICKIN ROSEMARY!!!
The show up till that point was good....but when st stephen came a knockin into Rosemary then into Strawberry fields...I was in heaven...Hanging in the House of Blues with my freak family having that great hotel roon to head to afterwards and the amazing music ...it was like sesory overload..and I loved it....
