Rutland Historical Society

The Rutland Historical Society was founded in 1969 to serve the original town of Rutland which includes the present towns of Proctor, Rutland Town, West Rutland and the City of Rutland.  Our video collection contains the Society’s award winning Historically Speaking Episodes, which includes interviews and historical pictorial material in a flexible TV magazine format. Moments in History Episodes provides brief segments chronicling Rutland’s past.  Notes From the Past focuses on political and eco...

David Wright, of the Middletown and Rutland Historical Societies presents still pictures of the Long Trail Lodge. David and his family were intimately involved with the lodge for many years and David is able to relate many stories connected with the history of the Long Trail Lodge. Michael discusses the problems in finding ancestors names in the Ellis Island records, which are now accessible online, and offers solutions to the problems. His widow left a large collection of the negatives of his photos to the Rutland Herald. "Two Early Rutland Films". Jim Davidson and Chuck Piotrowski co-host the showing of a 1914 movie film of events at the Rutland Carnival in downtown Rutland and at the 1914 Rutland Fair. This 10-minute film is the oldest Rutland film in the Society's collections. The second film is a 9-minute 1919 film taken at the Rutland Fairgrounds on the occasion of an honor day for the Rutland County veterans of World War I. The films are silent films with brief textual commentaries.
