BYU Sheet Music Collection
A growing selection of early sheet music from the holdings of the Harold B. Lee Library at Brigham Young University. These scores consist mostly of popular songs dating from the 18th through the early to mid 20th centuries. The instrumentation is usually piano and voice, but the selection also includes many works for piano solo. The vast majority of the scores were published either in the USA or United Kingdom. Most are English language when lyrics are present. The collection embraces a wide variety of topics of historical interest including songs associated with the Civil War, World Wars I and II, US presidents, African-Americans, slavery, and major nautical vessels and events. However, most of the songs are devoted to themes of romance. Cover art from the collection includes depictions of slaves or slavery, political figures, ships, musical instruments, famous singers, and a wide variety of famous dancers and dance genres.
