kpix 5's da lin is in oakland tonight. the side shows often turn violent. >> reporter: a big crackdown this weekend, that's because at least three people have been shot this year at oakland side shows. the police chief tells me the latest happened last weekend. two people wounded by gunfire. oakland police say side shows are becoming more violent. this one happened a month ago near downtown. police collected 200 shell casings. luckily, no one was shot. oakland police say this side show in mid-january ended with one person shot and last weekend more injuries at another side show. >> two people with gunshot wounds as a result of participating in side show. we often have seen a huge increase in shot spotted activations at the side shows. >> reporter: it's not just in oakland. this one in san jose also ended in gunfire on valentine's day. oakland police chief armstrong blames budget cuts, no money to do side show enforcement. after three people were shot he received approval for stepped up patrols. >> this is going to be our e
