, that would make it safe. so i thought about it, and then i started working with danny boyle and we went up to glasgow and worked with recovering addicts and one guy became our heroin advisor on set. i went to one of their recovery meetings and i watched these young guys and girls come in and i saw the extraordinary suffering they were going through and the pain in their eyes and i thought it would be enormously disrespectful to them for me to go try heroin. >> stephen: to dabble. i didn't need to. it wasn't necessary. so i asked all of these people that were generous enough to give us their time, and i asked them to describe what it was like to withdraw and what it felt like when you injected heroin. i'm an actor and i have to use my imagination, so that's what we did. it would have been very disrespectful to them to have done that. >> stephen: when i watched trainspotting, i needed some of the subtitles for some of the scenes. is that scotland's revenge on the english?
