i meant vermont. apologies. we are going to keep carl and keep chris wallace with us and bring in martha maccallum. she has been watching over the exit polls throughout the day and monitoring those for us. what are we learning? >> interesting tale here, shep. newt gingrich wins georgia and exit polls shows really how he did it? >> what are the underlying numbers? let's take a look at this. here are some of his strongest groups. first you have got in georgia 70% of the voters in georgia say they are tea party supporters. nearly half of them went for gingrich. same kind of picture with those who call themselves conservatives. 70 o% of the electorate in georgia calls themselves conservative. 48% of them went for the former speaker. now, more than six in ten of georgia voters today call themselves white evangelical christians. he got half of that group. they went to newt gingrich. and for the voters that say having the right experience is the most important thing to them in terms of their top quality he got 60% of t

vermont yet. a tiny smaterring of of the results here. as we look at the results of ohio the come in, i want to show you something about the state of ohio. here is a big question, who is in touch with the tough economy and the struggling economy and in touch with the blue collar voters? and the analysts? and who understands the problems, and 32% said santorum, and 18%, gingrich, and paul, 19%, and romney 23%. so a split there in who the ohio republicans think are best in touch with them. and who is the best important candidate quality, and in ohio, more than 1 in 10 said can defeat president obama in november. and big for governor romney among those who say it is the most important. but for electability, good for romney, and then you will see santorum very, very strong, and we will be there in ohio counting the votes quite some time. >> well, they close the polls in ohio in about five minutes from now and we can go to the exit polls and make a projection and looks like it will be very, very close.

an exhibit on vermont furniture in the early republic. but as i wandered through the sunlit main gallery where the museum's treasured objects were displayed, i started to see things that helped me understand how artisans and consumers -- and those are really the two groups -- imagined their world. first my eye was struck by a large neoclassical sideboard that you see here with this -- oops. with this graceful bow front and sleek lines looking for all the world like a sophisticated boston product, but it was made in windsor, vermont. in fact when you look at the inlays here, you can see that three of the inlays go in one direction and the fourth goes in the other. and my assumption there is that this is a person, a cabinetmaker who actually didn't make lots of sideboards. the fact that he was m was muc familiar than his metropolitan colleague, and that accounts for some of the variances in construction. at the other end of the museum i noticed a musical tall clock built by a vermont clock making partnership. it boasted a calendar wheel, a

of course he won massachusetts and vermont, that's his territory. he was one of only two people on the ballot in virginia, idaho, the second most mormons in all of the country. can't he get a clean victory without everybody putting an asterisk to it. >> there's an old saying in politics, the only asterisk is the one that matters on election day. he's the most likely nominee by far and he still is. three reasons people are saying this is not a clean win even though he got about half the delegates. the first biggest potential is ohio. apparent winner. 12,000 votes is a lot. as we've seen in florida recount in 2,000, most prominent thely. we have to make sure this is the actual count, that some county didn't double count votes or computer error. the second asterisk is the upcoming calendar, the contest for the rest of this month are not very good for mitt romney. particularly in kansas and missouri and mississippi and alabama. those will be tough contests for him, whether gingrich leaves the race or not. finally, the exit poll, show that romney still h

i do not believe in vermont or around this country that that is what the american people want. and i think people are united that we need to overturn this disastrous citizens united decision that said, quite amazingly, a corporation is a person with unlimited first amendment rights, can spend as much as they want on a campaign. >> what do you do about it? what's your best way going forward? how long might that take? >> well, i think ultimately we need a constitutional amendment. i have one. tom udall in new mexico has another one. we need a constitutional amendment to overturn citizens united. that will take us a while. we have to get through the house, the senate, three-quarters of the states. but i think short term what we can do is pass some legislation, which can significantly diminish the impact of citizens united. for example, right now, somebody is a billionaire corporate leader. he could put as much money as he wants into a campaign. he can put ads on television, come up with some phoney front group. nobody knows who's paying for the ad. you-f you do something very simp
