new york city. laura engles watching with us. i want to reach out to laura right now. how does it look? good morning to you? >> reporter: guys it is very windy here at jfk. we're experiencing gusts up to 35 miles per hour right now. that could be a problem. all systems are go as we wait for this historic moment to take place here at jfk. as you've been mentioning, the journey that enterprise will be taking is an historic one. this is kind of imagine you see a parade. peep -- people are lined up and down the streets for a parade that is going by. you should see all the blogs and tweets going on for anticipation of enterprise coming to new york city. people are scouting spots up and down hudson river, near the bridges and of course near the statue of liberty today. people have their cameras out. they are ready to watch this thing take place and post their pictures. a lot of excitement here today. we'll have a lot of dignitaries awaiting this arrival. you know what i just heard, you guys? leonard nimoy

so it has that same kind of idea of entry into and outside of new york city. and it has many symbols on top of it and throughout the facade -- symbols of new york city. you see thalf moon, which was henry hudson's ship. on the other side is a windmill, which refers to the original dutch settlers of new york. and then on the top is the great monumental sculptural element, which has three gods. >> the gods -- hercules, mercury, and minerva -- came from greek and roman mythology. they represent strength, commerce, and wisdom. even the clock is special. tiffany glass lines the numbers and the hands. >> it's very difficult to see, but when the light shines on it, it's quite beautiful and picks up in different colors. this is a really wonderful -- probably one of the most spectacular places to be in grand central and in the entire city. not very many people actually get to come up here. but what you can see from here that you can't see from down below -- first of all, you get a sense of the scale of the building, how large it really is. you get to experience the man

that is a cool shot as the sun comes up in new york city. that's from our building here in rockefeller center. bill, how does it look? >>> winter chill continues, great lakes, northeast, it's cold but at least the snow is over with in many spots. it didn't materialize to be the big blockbuster snows in the cities like pittsburgh and erie and buffalo, but a lot of the hill towns outside of those areas got up to a foot of snow, still dealing with power outages from that. today just a cold morning, the snow beginning to head had north into canada. the chill is in the air from new england to the mid-atlantic, into the southeast. definitely have the winter coat for the kids, maybe even the gloves. look at the windchill, it's pretty low, about 25 in buffalo. there's some cold air out there. still raining in maine. here are the windchill readings, the 30s all the big cities on the east coast, including washington, d.c., and pittsburgh it feels like 29. i think this will be the coldest morning we'll experience until next winter. hopefully this is it

new york city and new york state has had a prison decline, unlike many other states. in large part because we are arresting crime before it happens. we are not waiting till felonies occur, but intervening if we see suspicious behavior, somebody who looks like maybe casing a victim. we're going to ask a few questions. averting crime, pouring out somebody's open whiskey bottle who is drinking in public at 11:00 am rather than waiting till 11:00 pm when that person is good and drunk and you might get a knife fight and a homicide. i think the aclu has done a disservice to police departments across the country by charging them with racial profiling, charging them with going after suspects on the basis of race when, in fact, they are looking at behavior. and they are addressing the demands of law-abiding people in communities. if you go to a police precinct community meeting in harlem or central brooklyn, you are going to hear three things. a, we want more cops. b, we want the dealers off the streets. you arrest them. they come back. and we want more quality of life public
