and right now, we have abc2 news linda so joining me live here. she's also been out on the scene this morning. and you know, anytime you have deaths involving children it is just so upsetting and the family here, they've just been so distraught. walk around and blankets just not knowing what to do with themselves. >> reporter: they are very tight-knit family. we have about two dozen family members who are just standing outside of the home right now. and being able to learn more information about the victims who died in this fire. we're told it was a grandmother and grandfather who lived in the home with their adult children and grandchildren. the grandmother who was sleeping upstairs died in this fire. her four grandchildren, a 1- year-old boy, a 2-year-old girl, a 4-year-old boy and a 7- year-old girl. a student who went to moravia park elementary school, all died in this fire. we are told they were sleeping in an upstairs bedroom and all sleeping in the same room when they died. they could not escape. we spoke to the mother of one of those child

. >>> breaking news, linda so is live this morning, early this morning, we got the word that there was a fire in federal hill. >> it's on battery avenue. we have been working to get crews to the scene. linda is there right now. are you with us? >> reporter: hi. >> go ahead. >> reporter: a lot of fire trucks on the scene. we are on riverside avenue. this fire happened in the 1200 block of battery avenue, a street up, a block up there. firefighters about 80 of them are here now, trying to get the fire out. the fire is not out yet, it is under control. the problem here, is this home was filled with so much debris inside, a lot of clothing, wood, that it's really intensifying the fire. they are having a hard time putting it out. this broke out at 3:30 this morning. a 3-story row home. there was an elderly couple, their adult son, his wife, a 2 year old boy and a 4 year old girl, sleeping in the home when the fire happened. everyone was able to get out safely, they did suffer minor smoke inhalation and had to be taken to a nearby hospital, we are told their injuries are nonlife threatening.

. >> linda so is live, in an arundel county. >> reporter: police are waiting to bring in a hef crane to remove the tree from the house. there is a police car situated right outside of the house, because the man's body is still inside under the tree. we are at county police headquarters where we are getting new information this morning. let me show you the new video that our photographer shot. this happened overnight at around 11:00 last night. this is the 7700 block of stewart drive in pasadena. it's off of fort smallwood road. if you are familiar with the area, there are a lot of older homes with older trees, mature trees and there was a tree in the man's front yard that fell. it literally snapped the trunk and landed on the roof of the home on the left sides cut through the home, the tree is so big, the man happened to be inside of his house in the kitchen. police aren't sure if he was cooking. no one else was home. the tree fell on top of him and killed him. police found the man pinned, trapped under the tree. his body is in the house. police are waiting to bring in a heavy crane

abc2 news linda so is here with the latest developments and linda, why are health officials so worried this could get worse. >> reporter: well all of the facilities that unknownly game the con-- gave the contam name theed -- contaminated shot are ordered to check their stock. in marled we know of seven facilities that gave gave the shots including baltimore, towson, bel air and engwood. the cdc reports at least 5 people have died and 35 people have gotten sick in 6 states with fungal meningitis n maryland, one person died -- in maryland, one person died and another got sick. the outbreak is link to spinal steroid shots. state health officials worry it could get worse because hundreds of people are believed to have gotten the contaminated shot. it takes about 1 to 4 weeks for symptoms to surface. you should look for stroke like symptoms and a fever and headache and stiff neck or vomiting. >> it can take up to a month for it to really show up. it is caused by a fungus of mold that doesn't cause harm. >> reporter: now you can find a complete list of the medical facilities here in maryland

linda so is live this morning in federal hill with details on one of the laws and linda, this could have a impact on kids and car seats. >> reporter: yes, any kid under 8 years old parents what this means is you might have to put your child back into a booster seat like this one if they met the weight requirement before the new law took eyeee text. starting today the law requires all kids under 8 to ride in a child safety seat regardless of weight until they are 4 feet 9 inches or taller. before the change, kids who weighed more than 65 pound could forgo the car seat but according to the national highway traffic safety administration car crashes are the number one cause of death in kid in the u.s. this new law is designed to a cut down on that rate and to keep kids safe on the roads. some of the other laws that take effect today, the phylicia barnes law designed to improve how law enforcement and commity groups work together when a child disappears also requiring state officials to publish a list of missing children. and another law that takes effect today that affects everyone with a jo

linda so is here with all the details that you need to know this morning. linda this latest case there has been one in maryland but the fatality where did that happen. >> reporter: it happened in florida and the victim was the 70-year-old man. we are told that it's the first death linked to the outbreak of the rare form of meningitis and more people have gotten sick there. that raises the death toll to 12in more than 100 people have gotten sick nationwide. outbreak spread to 10 states including here in maryland where one person has died. the meningitis outbreak has been linked to tainted steroid shots for back pain. it was made by a pharmacy in massachusetts and has since recalled all of its products. now 75 medical facilities in 23 states received the contaminated shots including seven facilities here in maryland. the cdc says as many as 13,000 people could have gotten the tainted shots. linda so, abc2 news. >>> toyota is recalling more than 7 million cars worldwide involving dozens of models produced between 2005 and 2010 including the yaris and corolla a

so linda so is here with what you need to know this morning as you get ready to head out the door. what is this all about and why are they so concerned. >> reporter: they are contaminated steroid shots commonly given for back pain. we know that at least 7 facilities throughout the state that unknowingly gave the shots linked to the outbreak including locations in towson baltimore and edgewood and bel air. the outbreak has gotten worse. the cdc reports at least five people have died and 35 people have gotten sick and 6 -- in 6 states. so far in maryland one person has died, and another has gotten sick. outbreak has been linked to the spinal steroid shots that come in treatment for back pain. state health official worry it could get worse because hundreds of people are believed to have gotten the shots. and it takes about 1 to 4 weeks for symptoms to surface. you should look out for stroke like symptoms like a phaser -- fever headache stiff neck orvomiting. >> this meningitis is not transmissible person to person. and it is considered to be a treatable infection. >> reporter: now you

four of them children and three others were injured. >> abc2 news linda so is live this morning at the scene continuing with the team coverage. linda you've spent some time talking to the victims' families, a really tough assignment? >> reporter: a very emotional time for these family members who have lost four children and their grandmother. this fire started right up the road in a row home. there on denwood avenue. we have about two dozen family members who came out here after hearing about this fire. what we've been able to learn so far is that it was a grandmother and grandfather who lived in this house with their adult children and their grandchildren. what we know about the victims it was the grandmother who died. we've been told her name is nancy burrell, she was 55 years old. the youngest victim a 1-year- old boy. several children who passed away, the oldest child a 7-year- old who went to ma raffia park elementary school. his name was tykea man lee. they were sleeping on the second floor. the children were apparently all sleeping in the same bedroom. there were about ten peopl
