once tom got accepted to school, i decided to get out as well. so here i am in new york. i was from a small town in kentucky. had been in the military for seven years. loved what i was doing and now i needed to focus on transition. it really requires something. these ladies understand it. but i think it is really something that we tell the story of our transitions so the people who are not in new york city where veterans are able to speak and the civilian world wants to listen. to the rest of the country, i think there are a lot of veterans out there who feel isolated. the military culture is very small, less than 1%. if veterans are not self identifying as veterans, and for various reasons, some don't, if they hear stories that are similar to theirs, i think they become more comfortable speaking out. i think that puts them on a path to a successful transition. hopefully building on the skills they acquired in the military. i think veterans are incredibly resilient just by virtue -- i am not sure if it's by virtue of the type of people who want to serve and feel called to
