i'm katy zachry. about a minute and a half before 7:00 a.m., if you are getting out the door for work or school, be forewarned. the blue route, 476 is looking pretty backed up right around baltimore pike. there is a crash southbound between baltimore pike and route 1. you can see all that backup and the brake lights in our camera around baltimore pike. so, it is adding tremendously to your drive time southbound between the schuylkill expressway and 95. that's almost a 40-minute drive. usually it's about an 18-minute drive for that stretch. so, i'm going to be keeping my eye on that. i can tell you, i just checked area bridges. they are free and clear of any issues. and 95 drive times are slowing around cottman and girard. >>> temperatures in the 30s right now, but we'll see a decent warm-up during the day. we'll get some sunshine. still a few minutes before sunrise, about 7:15 this morning. scattered clouds in easton, temperature climbing into the middle 30s by lunchtime and upper 30s for the lehigh v

but first, katy zachry has your first alert traffic. >> hi, bill. not a lot of major incidents going on on the highways right now, but if you're driving in the area of the schuylkill expressway and croton road, you can see off in the distance, the shoulder right here, there is a disabled vehicle. so, be aware of that. it may slow things down a bit if you're headed on 76 and passing through croton road right now. taking a look at our majors throughout the area and drive times. 95, if you're headed southbound between woodhaven and the vine, it's going to take about 13 minutes. 76 eastbound between the pennsylvania turnpike and the vine street expressway is a 17-minute drive, average speed around 60 miles an hour right now. and the blue route, if you're headed northbound between 95 and the schuylkill expressway, that's a 14-minute drive. there is some construction in the philadelphia area on lincoln drive if you're headed southbound, be aware that between rittenhouse street and kelly drive, that stretch of road is closed due to construction. when i see

nbc10's katy zachry is on the scene with an update. what do we know? >> reporter: tracy, it was some incredibly tense and very sad moments last night and in the overnight hours on fulton street. this is block of row homes is the stretch that was damaged. some homes a total loss. the fire is now out. you can see an engine is staying on the scene to watch for hot spots in case they flare up. let's go to video of what happened overnight. allentown fire department called in for extra manpower as the fire grew in size. it took four hours for firefighters to get it under control. a firefighter tells us it began in the middle row home. we are told everyone on the block made it out okay, though i am still waiting for official word that no one, including firefighters, was injured. neighbors say it is the worst thing that's happened on their street. they're just grateful it did not happen overnight while people were sleeping. >> the time of night, what time it start, nobody was sleeping. it was early. that means someone was able to combat it. >> reporter: people

nbc 10's katy zachry's live in west oak lane for us. katy, this chase went through several communities before ending in the crash. tell us what happened. >> reporter: it did, vai and tracy. so, that stolen suv hit a car on this street in west oak lane, then careened into this brick wall, taking an entire section down as well as the trash that was on the sidewalk, and then ultimately came to a stop against a nearby tree. people nearby tell me they thought a bomb had gone off. the impact was so loud. now, police from several communities in montgomery county had been after this stolen suv. now, the chase began in whitemarsh township. it went through several communities before crashing here in west oak lane. the homeowner whose brick wall is destroyed says her niece had just taken out the trash to the exact spot where the car hit the brick wall. and on top of that, her neighbor and young son were caught in the middle of the chaos. >> coming out the driveway and the car hit her, you know, when they were coming down the street and they spun h

katy zachry is live on scene. you spoke with a man who watched his neighbors' homes burn. >> reporter: that man lives on this corner right here just feet from where his neighbors' homes were burning. he tells me he knows everyone who has business displaced and describes it as a heartbreaking scene. this fast-moving fire on north fulton in allentown began after 8:00 thursday night. firefighters tell us it began in the middle row home of the 40 0 block of north fulton street, possibly in the back of the house. a man and two children, we're told, were the first to report it. neighbors tell me this block is filled with families. the red cross is helping more than 20 people, 23 to be exact, with food, clothing and shelter at this early hour. >> we were crying, laying on the ground, shaking their heads. >> reporter: there were some kids who lived here? >> yeah, a lot of kids lived over there. all the houses have kids. everybody lose everything just like that. >> reporter: a total loss for many of those seven families in

. >> and ima katy zachry. it is 5:30 on the dot after a long holiday weekend. let's start with meteorologist krystal klei. >> was it long for new. >> it was a very nice weekend. yeah, it was kind of long because we didn't have that morning show yesterday so i can't complain. here's a look at your temperatures outside. we certainly had a cooldown. yesterday temperatures got up very nicely into the 40s around 50 in some spots. philadelphia officially hit 50 which was our forecast temperature. already though we've dropped right back down. 20s over some areas. 28 reading, pottstown, 26 allento allentown. 36 in philadelphia, northeast philly 35. look at dover, up to 38 degrees this morning. notice, we've got the warmer air pressing in from the south. the temperatures are boosting up in those locations. looking at radar and satellite, this is a wider view here. it shows that we've got the clouds but there's just very light rain falling farther to the west. this is way ahead of the system. it's actually more located near the great lakes. that's going to bring us rain

katy zachry is live for us in allentown with more on that. give us an update. >> reporter: vai, take a look behind me. this block on fulton street, the 400 block, is the one that was devastated by fire. the fire began at 8:00 last night. the fire is out now. i'm told firefighters got control just after midnight. this engine you see here, i talked to one of the guys assigned to it. this firefighter tells me they'll be here until day break so watch out for hot spots. that's a fear that something will ignite inside this block of row homes. a total of 23 people, as you said, vai, are out of their homes this morning, forced to evacuate as flames tore through home after home. we have video of that. i'm told by people who were here at the scene that firefighters got control of the blaze around 10:30. that means for four hours, dozens of firefighters battled this growing fire. the 400 block of fulton street was evacuated soon after the fire was reported at 8:00. i'm told a total of eight homes are devastated. now, fortunately, one of those homes was

nbc 10 first alert traffic reporter katy zachry is watching the vine street expressway. katy? >> those construction crews are pretty on schedule. so, just around the 5:00 hour they lifted the construction at the vine street expressway. that was closing a section of the road overnight. so this is an aerial view of the vine right at 20th street. you'll see a few cars on 20th street, which is this ramp above. you can see traffic is moving at a pretty good clip on the vine. so that stretch between 76 and broad street in both directions has reopened. so that should make your morning drive a little bit smoother this morning. taking a look at your majors throughout pennsylvania and how they're faring. 95, 76 and the blue route. everything is in the green light, which means no major incidents. traffic is moving the normal speed limit. you can see your drive on 95 southbound is a quick 13 minutes between wood haven and the vine. construction for philadelphia on lincoln drive. lincoln drive southbound is closed between rittenhouse street and kelly drive for a construction project there.

nbc 10's katy zachry's live in west oak lane. this chase went through several communities before ending in a crash. tell us what happened. >> reporter: vai and tracy, the police pursuit started in montgomery county, in whitemarsh township, wound its way through several towns before coming to a crashing end here in this part of philadelphia. this is what the scene looked like. we have some video we want to roll for you. looked like earlier, wilson and walnut lane, the silver suv that you see in the video that crashed into a tree, well, that is the stolen car that police chased through several communities. it took out another vehicle at this intersection and broke through a brick wall before slamming into a tree. now, we're told two men were inside when police finally caught up to the vehicle. one of the men was injured in the crash and arrested at the scene. the other man ran from police but only got a few blocks from here before he was arrested. now, back out here live, you can see there is significant damage to this property. if

i'm katy zachry. >> i'm vai sikahema. the system that brought us a wintry mix and wet weather is moving out of our area. about two hours ago when we came on the air we saw snow in the pocono area. all of that has changed. bill henley has the first alert forecast. >> good morning, vai. only snow in the pocono mountains. looking better than it did earlier. coming down heavy. which skiers are looking forward to. it's really lightened up. a fine snow falling there. the rest of the area is seeing the rain tapering off. the only areas where we saw a little bit of a rain/snow mix was in the lehigh valley, allentown. as you can see, it's already drying out and the thicker clouds are already starting to move out. meantime it is rain from cape may to atlantic city right along the jersey coast line. drying conditions and clouds thinning in wilmington and philadelphia. we're seeing rain right now. look at the temperatures. this is why it's only been rain this morning for wilmington, philadelphia, northeast philadelphia and into the m

nbc 10's katy zachry is live in west oak lane. katy, tell us more. >> reporter: well, tracy, i'll to how it began in just a second, but first i want to jump to how this whole thing ended. that stolen car crashed into this brick wall, causing all of this damage you see. and it turns out, a young girl had just taken out the trash to this exact spot moments before the crash took place. nbc 10 was the only station out here with our cameras rolling soon after the crash took place. and from our video, you can see the suv, this suv, silver. it was stolen in whitemarshship, according to police. overnight it wound its way through several communities with police on its tail. they finally caught up to it when it crashed on this philadelphia street in west oak lane. now, the woman who owns the brick wall in the house right nearby says it sounded like a bomb went off from the impact. she believes they are blessed because her 13-year-old niece had placed the trash on the curb in this exact spot. >> see how the trash is knocked up on the sidewal

i'm katy zachry. >> and i'm rows mary connors. we are bracing for bitter temperatures today and wet weather for the weekend. bill henley has the details. fill us in, bill. >> the worst of the cold happening right now. we're seeing temperatures in the teens. that's a cold wind that's still blowing so it feels like it is in the single digits to near zero degrees this morning. a very cold start to the day and we will be below freezing all day today. the wind will not be as strong as yesterday, but it's a 12 mile an hour wind in philadelphia and wilmington a little bit lighter in south jersey and the lehigh valley. enough wind to give us wind chills that are in the single digits for most locations. vineland feels like 5 degrees, zero is what it feels like in wilmington. 1 below in coatesville and 10 degrees below in the pocono mountains. so nobody is warm today. need to layer up and limit your time outside. that being said you can see the skies are starting to brighten, we will get some sunshine, 14 degrees right now, not pretty at al

. >> and i'm katy zachry. thanks for joining us. let's get to meteorologist crystal klei. look at conditions where you live. what a wild weekend weather we had. >> it was a busy weekend. we had a little bit of everything out there. yesterday temperatures were way warmer than is typical for this time of year. the feels like temperature, that's the single digit you see in mount pocono. alan town feeling like 12 and 19 the feels like in trenton. areas like philadelphia, wilmington, violet all in the mid 20s. a lot of us starting out with a very cold feels like and true temperature as well. 14 for mount pocono, 30 mount holly. atlantic city starting out at 31 degrees. radar and satellite, this is a lot in the last few days. we had snow and ice on saturday and then rain moving through on sunday. today we will remain dry. instead, we're going to be tracking clouds and a close eye on those temperatures because we're going to be staying on the cool side. so here's a look where we are right now. 30 degrees in philadelphia. notice the winds north and still a little breezy. as they m

. >> and i'm katy zachry. let's get to crystkrystal klei our weather. >> we're looking at conditions this morning, can't complain about the temperatures. look at this. this is a 24-hour change map. we're comparing temperatures right now to 24 hours ago and we're way warmer. 20 degrees if philadelphia and 25 degrees warmer in allentown. yesterday we were talking below freezing temperatures. not today. here's a look at the actual temperatures. mid 50s across the area. dover at 56. even allentown up to 51 degrees. so it's a very moderate start to your morning. but we do have changes moving in in the form of rain. clouds will building in a bit more. we have light rain trying to make its way in. but the bulk of the showers are sitting off to our southwest. you can see this area of rain that right now is just starting to move into the southwest part of pennsylvania. that's going to continue tracking along here moving to the northeast and the line itself tracking directly west to east. so that rain will be moving our

. >> and i'm katy zachry. just a few minutes before 4:30 on your monday after christmas. let's get right to meteorologist krystal klei. >> it was the perfect forecast for christmas. if you like to get outside. today we're going to see fairly nice conditions. temperatures average. cold out there this morning. a lot of us in the 30s and as we move farther northwest and the 20s in some spots. alan town 26. reading at 28 degrees. checking in the lowest at 24 right now. still freezing areas like mount holly and trenton. we see warmer numbers as we track farther south. chicago pulling in warmer air from the south. we'll start seeing the numbers boost. we'll continue warming through the day and even into tonight. mount pocono are still quite chilly at 23 degrees. it's this area that we have very isolated potential of little wintry mix. even freezing rain later on this morning. doesn't look likely though. way out to our west tracking some very spotty light rain that's starting to pick up. that's just barely beginning to move into pennsylvania. some of that may be able to clip tha

. >> and i'm katy zachry. we remain with the frigid temperatures under first alert because of another day of those dangerously cold temperatures. let's get right to meteorologist bill henley with his first alert neighborhood forecast. it is so cold outside you can barely speak. >> coldest numbers we have seen in a long time. we're seeing a little bit of a breeze right now at the flag in center city, that's the flag blowing at the top, right now the wings are at 16 miles an hour in philadelphia and even where they are lighter it's still just enough wind to make it feel very cold this morning. zero the windchill right now, feels like zero in reading and one below in lancaster, 2 degrees in wilmington and 5 in trenton. if you can find a spot sheltered from the wind the actual temperature 15 degrees for the suburbs, new jersey and the lehigh valley and 16 degrees with an 18 mile an hour wind at philadelphia international. we will see these numbers warm into the 20s this afternoon and we will stay dry during the da
