kpix's devon feely says evacuees had little time to clear out of their homes. >> reporter: if the smoke didn't wake you up, residents got a knock on the door from the sheriff's department in the middle of the night ordering them to evacuate. the fire spread quickly, leaving little time for neighbors to escape. >> the minute you opened the door you could smell the smoke when you looked out you couldn't see anything because it was really smoking. when it you know it's close. >> reporter: cal fire so something or someone sparked a total of nine separate wires along marsh creek road overnight. >> we are focusing on the containment to get the fire out and get it mopped up well. we will worry about the cause when the time comes. the fire raced through the grass and brush, blackening entirely hillsides. >> it's scary when it dark out. we could see flames from our backyard. >> reporter: by don cal fire brought in helicopters to help hundreds of firefighters battling the blaze on the ground. >> our caretakers are overhead and our helicopters are here. we are making pretty good progress on the fi
