since 2005 i have corresponded with lori who's in federal prison in greenville, illinois. one of seven step and half siblings, lori was born and raised in ottumwa in a family that she describes as studiously normal and benign. despite this, lori dropped out of high school as a freshman and began living in an ottumwa rooming house where in the evenings there was a running poker game. the landlady was also a madam. in exchange for room and board, lori and her young cohorts could either agree to sleep with the men who played cards or deliver illegally-prescribed pills, an early form of pharmaceutical meth, to the landlady's clients. lori chose the latter. thus, her career along with her legend was born. lori kept herself housed by delivering and selling brown and clears, as pharmaceutical meth was called during the 1970s when it was prescribed by the millions as a weight loss aid and antidepression drug. the landlady got most of lori's profits though and to make ends meet, lori still had to work six days a week at a local bar. by 15, lori was married. by 16, she was divorced

and this is particular school is in illinois. they have a batch of students though the next year to education. if you look at the beginning of every school year, they are starting at needed to do some strong education again. many of the teens across the country are using the same to address texting or talking on a cell phone. so they are setting up these awareness campaigns. they are checking to see if they are texting and driving in different locations, and for states that have laws working with them to support that, and encourage peers not to participate in that behavior. youth are very creative when empowered. they create methods. these are just a few example of some the work that the teens put together. the first one is example of board that the youth created and received funding to post. the next one that you see there are place mats that the youth put together. they are to gather the information and learn from the process they wanted to share with the communities or community assessment, finding out what the laws were. they

it is pfc michael pearson who was 21 years old of bolingbrook, illinois. again, he's one of the 13 dead. 12 of those killed were soldiers. one was a civilian. >> david, you were even telling us this morning about first responders. who was there first? who was able to stop this person? >> the people who were able to stop this were two police officers who were part of the -- who are civilians, part of the police force here on post. they got the call. the response time was about three minutes. they got to the scene and one of those officers, a female officer, exchanged gunfire with the shooter. they were both wounded in the shootout. major hasan was wounded with four gunshot wounds. he is now in a hospital bed under guard on a ventilator. he was alive. but the police officer was wounded. she was also taken to the hospital where she's in stable condition and being treated. she's being hailed today as a hero because it was her actions that ended this rampage. >> yeah, no doubt. she is definitely very key to what, hopefully, excuse me, what was the end of the ra
