san francisco area. we serve 1,000 children right now and our goal by the end of 2018 is to double that amount of children that are served per year to 2,000. our most important priority right now is to reduce that 83 child waiting list down to zero and we are very pleased to be working with the city and the board of supervisors. supervisor cohen and chiu and sf city in order to reduce and eventually eliminate that waiting list. there are all kind of statistics that show what the power of mentor ship can do for a child in their life. from increased academic performance to increased level of self-confidence to decrease levels of susceptible to join gangs and it's just really simple of just matching a caring adult for a child in need. most of our kids come from single parent households. 10-15 percent of them have an incarcerated parent. we want to help them have a better stronger brighter future. we thank you so much for the special commendation and recognizing the work we do and all the other mentor ship o

we're also here to say no to the new jail for san francisco. whether [speaker not understood] identified or not, we are a high rate of those who get arrested and go to jail. we are being criminalized due to poverty and inequality which has worn us down. we suffer from discrimination, low wages, no incomes and violence, especially folgbtq people of color. poverty and economic inequality must be addressed to end our crises, not criminalization. last june there were horrific statistics that came out during pride about the high number of lgbtq young people homeless in san francisco. thises was followed by the rate of lgbtq elders committing suicide because of poverty. 29% of homeless population in san francisco identify as lgbtq. as queers we have often been forced to leave families due to violence, bullying and home phobia and we end up on the streets to this day. ~ homophobia when we end up on the streets, we're vulnerable to be arrested, exposed to violence and ending up in jail. queer or not, when we are in jail or prison, our loved ones suffer

and i grew up here in san francisco and i raise mied family and i live in san francisco and i want them to be part of this decision making and we need balance for them. the life cycle of family in san francisco, and includes having infants and having to go to see doctors, and going shopping in the neighborhood with these, young kids, and with the parking is a must. and going to the different party and going to see family. and they become older and they become school age and then, you need to take them to schools. and their school events and their sporting events and the baseball practice and dr. visits and multitasking and having to go to the hardware store and having to go shopping and dinner prepared and having to pick up your other child. and we are more than just bikes, and the families can be forgot enhere in san francisco and i hope that you continue to focus on this issue and focus on meeting balance for our small business and our families here in san francisco. and thank you very much. >> thank you. >> next speaker. okay, good evening commissioners and my name is henry and i am

in san francisco. those populations are not necessarily distinct. so there is likely overlap between them. according to the agency for health care research and quality, there is typically about a 54.8 percent prevalence of obesity in diagnosed diabetes. we applied that rate to our san francisco numbers to get a better sense of what those distinct populations likely are. doing that we found there are likely 83, 249 obese adults in san francisco and 46, 909 diabetic adults in san francisco. in order to measure the cost related to the consumption of sugar sweet and beverages and the health impact that causes, we have to understand a few different factors. so, the first is the direct and indirect cost related to that consumption. direct cost would be the cost of medical care that are directly related to the intervention. so inpatient visits, outpatient visits, drug care, etc. indirect cost are related to work force productivity. these include absenteeism which is sick leave and disability and presentism. w
