the obama side. we have a first lady in michelle obama who is best friends with valerie jarrett and who is a behind the scenes adviser to her husband in a way that's quite different because in many respects, michelle behaves toward her husband as though she knows better. he has said in public that she's the boss. he often sounds like a henpecked guy, i must say. i know that's very radical to say that, but i think there's a lot of truth to that. these women, both michelle and valerie, have enormous influence over his policy decisions. another concrete example, when bill daley was the chief of staff of the obama white house, he said after he resigned that he and obama would come to an agreement and then valerie jarrett would go upstairs to the residence that night, spend the evening up there talking to barack and michelle and the next morning, the president would come down and contravene and throw out the agreement that daley had. and daley resigned because he couldn't function with that kind of white

you know, obama would be forced to sign their bill. this was how they were going to undo all of the damage that romney had done on the issue of immigration in the primaries. only problem? deporter in chief didn't want to play along. instead, president obama did something. he headed them off. he used a preemptive measure. he took executive action. in june of 2012, president obama announced his own miniature dream act. this affected more than 800,000 people. instead of deporting those dreamers the president directed his administration to offer them a legal means to stay in this country. republicans had blocked legislative attempts to do that so president obama used his executive authority to defer hundreds of thousands of deportations. essentially on his say so. people lined up for applications throughout the u.s. this was a big deal. this was in the middle of the presidential campaign. and with that executive action by president obama, mitt romney's grand strategy for winning back some of the latino vote he had lost, that grand strategy

obama's sanctions were first announced back in march. our exports to russia are up 17% over the past three months. now, that is a sanction, isn't it? and the value of our exports to russia has risen each month, topping more than $5 billion. now, russia counts for only less than one percent of all of our exports, but what we sell to russia is largely technology and equipment for the energy sector. that's right, we're helping out russia, and the target of today's expanded sanctions, energy. the european union has also intensified its sanctions against russia after previously targeting only individuals and certainly organizations with direct involvement in threatening ukraine. but those nations and europe stopped short of sanctioning the gas sector. why? because europe is utterly dependent on russia for its natural gas and that's part of the problem with sanctions like these. ultimately these sanctions, these embargoes, boy cots, whatever you want to call them, will injure innocent and unintended victims in this highly interconnected global
