and that takes place more than 3000 miles from nato's headquarters in brussels, where troops from all 28 members serve with troops from 22 nonmembers, partner countries have joined in the isaf mission. only nato has the integrated command and control structure that could manage such a complex undertaking. and 7000 more soldiers are maintaining security in the balkans where casework continues to play a crucial role. including are fighting the insurance of a safe and secure environment during the serbian presidential elections that will take place this coming sunday. presidential and parliamentary election. made it was also conducting maritime operations under nato flag. and as you know the last few weeks we successfully concluded a critical mission and libya that saved countless lives. there really isn't an issue today that is of national security importance that we do not work on with our european allies. countering terrorism, dealing with weapons of mass destruction and ballistic missile proliferation, addressing cybersecurity, enhancing energy security. the list goes on and on. when

jeff joins us from brussels. can you tell us why the new tensions are such a source of concern were you are? >> it is little known fact that in the recently agreed lisbon treaty on european union, strangely enough there was a reference to the falklands. the declaration of the treaty says that the falklands along to the united kingdom, and therefore, of course, that means that 27 nations, including the u.k., have subscribed to that belief. officially. now, if you talk to european commission felt here, they will say, look, it has nothing to do with us. this is a foreign policy matter for argentina and for the united kingdom. so we do not want to get involved. but in fact, if there's any by is one where the other, because of the treaty reference, the express instructions of the british foreign office, then the official opposition for the european union is malvinas are the falklands and belonged to britain. >> latin america is pretty much united behind argentina on this. in spite of this treaty, what else is happenin

in brussels we meet a coordinated set of the european union's representatives because they're getting together to explore space together, embark on space adventures together. and one of the issues was we were perfecting our gps. yes, it was a military funded project, but once it became part of our commerce, then the ownership in a way kind of shifted from the military to the public. our planes are equipped with gps. gps receivers, so they can find their way around the world. europe was planning a competing system to gps system, called galileo. it's extremely expensive to do this. we are there, remember, this is the aerospace commission. we said you could use our gps, what's the matter? we want to build our own. our worry was that if they build it then they will require every one of our airplanes to be equipped with their galileo receivers, upping the cost of equipping all of our airplanes which is already in a bad economic state. so we are at the table, and i remember the guy sitting across from me. he was kind of smug. we were saying we want you to use this, and they were just doing
