and castro children when he was married to this guy, he was closer in age to children than to castro's father. it is full of paradoxes. people on the farm who were castro's friends with whom he grew up with peasants, children -- entertainment workers and miserable life that at best gave employment for 3 months a year. he knew all along it was very nice to have what he had at the same time he was aware many other people didn't and there were fundamental inequalities. what does it mean to be a liberal nationalist. we cling to some kind of commitment to private enterprise, maybe social democrats. there is some form of commitment to civil liberties, civil and political liberties and also cling to some sort of commitment to social liberty, the right to education and democracy and other things and we might also cling to the right to sovereignty, a nation independent of other nations. there are a lot of things going on here. we could believe in all of them while fundamentally putting a few aside while you pursue one or the other. in the name of sovereignty, he kind of lost his mind, put them

the castro doesn't exist in isolation. we're existing within the larger city and we're experiencing many of the same socioeconomic pressures as many countries and cities around the world. but the queer community is particularly special in some ways because we've -- this is our home. in many cases, we've lost our connections to our family and communit about about the lgbtq community and people of color. i think about the past and the importance of that, but i also think about the present and how i go to work every day and pass by things like when pulse night club happened and all the material that went out, how that influenced my work. the products and services that i make in corporate -- in the corporate world in the bay area. so it really influences what we're producing and what's going out into the world? not to push our ideals out into the world but to show a responsible model of what good might look like. so some of the things that i've contributed to the castro, i volunteered for ten years at my tree, the sweetheart o

castro: i grew up with a single mom. i watched how hard my mother worked to support me and my brother and her mom, my grandmother. we need to ensure women get equal pay for equal work in our country. and that we pass the equal rights amendment. and also that we defend a woman's right to choose because it is under assault right now in our country. [applause] mr. castro: if we are going to be the most prosperous nation on earth, it has to mean prosperity for everybody. recently congress, the house of representatives passed legislation to raise the minimum wage to $15 an hour. the senate needs to pass that as well and the president should sign it. we need to make sure people can earn a good living and provide for their families. but that also means that we need to support labor so unions can represent workers and worker productivity that has been on the rise for so many years can be matched by the wages and benefits people get. right now that is not happening in our country. too many people that are working 40, 50, 60 hours

secretary castro. thank you for being here. >> on the security clearance issue, i don't know national security backgrounds on these sorts of issues. i want to get a response. so this controversial that's happening between democrats and congress who are upset of the way trump administration hand handling it. >> it is ironic. based on how he raised his campaign, clamming minute ton and about his he mails. this is the sloppest when it comes to handling classified information and these issues are related to national security. my hope is that congress will continue to assert its authority and get a hold of documents to investigate exactly what is happening in terms of the white house, over ruling the career staff that was made recommendations on certain individuals should get and security experience or not. >> you they think so punsing what the norms were. before this administration busted through all these norms. clearance and this process but a whole bunch of other processes within the federal government.
