shanghai with a high of 38. you are going to be seeing afternoon thunderstorms pop up here. but, wow, look at that, about 10 degrees higher than down here towards manila, where we're seeing 29 on wednesday. now, let's look over towards the americas, what's going on here? well, the severe weather spot is right there in the center of the screen. it is this large area of thunderstorms pushing out there from kansas into oklahoma, extending out through arkansas and missouri. expecting about 40, 80 millimeters of rainfall with this going through your day on tuesday into wednesday. before it starts to weaken out, as it moves into kentucky and tennessee, pushing off there towards the east. so that's the good news. it does look like the worst of this is starting to get over with as it pushes off there. but then, we have this cold front pushing in out of canada. and that's going to trigger up some thunderstorms into the western great lakes over towards chicago as well. you have flying plans out of o'hare, keep an eye on that, especially by wednesday evening. you have the daytime heati

take a look at shanghai. 38 degrees, well above your average, with plenty of sunshine there. now to the americas. we are looking at chantal, a tropical storm system. it looks like it's going maintain its intensity as a tropical storm. and it is already bringing hurricane-force winds. so we do have hurricane watches posted in some of the countries, especially espanolia. looks like it will be tracking towards the countries and into florida peninsula. talking about the east coast, we're seeing lots of rain and severe thunderstorms. we have several reports of tornadoes already falling from this phenomenon. to the temperatures, as we see, death valley reaching 48 degrees, quite hot there, or sizzling willing hot. some people are actually -- they know how to cool off, especially in new york. let me show you a picture coming up from there. some new yorkers are escaping from the blistering heat at this newly opened bar called minus 5. the temperature remains minus 5 degrees celsius. everything here made out of ice, including the bar, glasses ask tables. the admission fee is 20 u.s. d

as far as temperatures though, shanghai with a high of 38, seoul at 29, seeing showers here. tokyo, cloudy skies but don't be surprised if you see an afternoon thunderstorm pop-up especially inland going through wednesday afternoon into the evening hours. let's talk about the americas. really, it's the meandering jet stream out here which is dominating the weather pattern right now. i'll show you what i mean here. over towards the west we have this high pressure ridge. and look how far north that jet stream is continuing to push. then it dives down into the gulf of mexico where you have this low pressure area though that is the air being lifted up. and it's also dragging in this moisture in from the south off the atlantic pushing it on shore. the next several days many areas see about 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall. already flash flood watches in effect here as well. and even some strong storms, actually a tornado reported in new jersey. so this is going to be continuing to be a problem through the next several days. it's just the fact that this is lingering, it's not goin

shanghai getting up to 38 degrees. another sweltering day on wednesday. tokyo, 34 and staying dry. 36 in chongqing. towards the north, a little bit cooler in the upper 20s there. and quite unstable. and we'll see some scattered thunderstorms down towards the south. all right, on we go into the americas. and severe storms are erupting here across the northern tier of the u.s. and into canada as well. you can even see some tornadoes with this system. it's bringing winds of up to about 100 kilometers an hour. you could see golf ball sized hail and also some rain, heavy enough to cause flash flooding issues. so there's your severe area. and it's quite wide dipping down all the way down into kansas. much of the eastern two-thirds of the continent is going to be dealing with rain. but the central plains further down towards the south as well you've been dealing with some really extreme heat. temperatures in the mid-30s in denver, into oklahoma city as well as in houston. things are looking very hot indeed. and quite unstable too. up towards the northwest much m

shanghai, mid to high 30s as well. towards the americas, what's going on here as far as the upper level low which is still spinning over texas, drawing in moisture from the west. portions of northwest new mexico seeing heavy showers and risk of flooding and flash floods. this will weaken out but really pop-up thunderstorms across much of the northeast at this time into the midwest and great lakes. you see this set upright here? this will drift in from the north. there's a risk of severe weather thursday and friday. main reason is because it's very hot and humid. the atmosphere is unstable across the great lakes. 34 in chicago, 32 in toronto. new york at 35. what it feels like due to the heat and mugginess of the atmosphere, some places into the 40s. you'll want to stay cool especially in some cities where you don't have air conditioning in a few places. so it really is going to get quite hot. a similar picture right now into southern france towards northern italy, showers there. a few could become strong. look at a hig

north of that things are on the hot side across chongqing, shanghai, 37 and 38 for you. northeastern china, on the other hand, some areas could see about 100 millimeters of rainfall going into tuesday. even out towards wednesday, even seoul will be seeing some showers, it's the stationary boundary, the same one bringing the flooding rains across much of northern japan. et cetera let's look at the americas, we have the monsoonal flow coming in off the pacific here and that's been triggering the showers much of the southwest. right now we have this disturbance there into the plains, coming off the central rockies. in portions of kansas, oklahoma, you could see 48 millimeters of rainfall as it pushes through. pushing to the east, we have this high pressure in the great lakes and then a low pressure moving out through ontario and quebec. now the high pressure is the big story with this. we are seeing the rain showers, the thunderstorms ahead of it. but what it did, it's bringing in the cooler air from the north. and northern minnesota, during the early morning hours on monda

i want to point out shanghai here on our temperature chart, 38 degrees and bright sunshine. that's going to feel very intense indeed, but you're tapping into some of those showers a little further north in seoul. on into the americas. more rain here spread out across the eastern third of the united states. a lot of heavy rain. that's going to be the main concern here. but you'll also see gusts up to about 90 kilometers an hour. further towards the north along the u.s./canada border, we have the low moving through onontari. and more wet weather out here towards the southwest. we've been talking about flash flooding happening in nevada as well as in arizona. the suburbs of phoenix we were talking about very dramatic rescue there of people being air lifted out of their vehicle that got submerged in waters. well, things are going to be wet here into your monday as well. temperaturewise staying hot in the center of the continent. denver down through houston in the mid-30s there. little cooler up towards the northeast, new york tapping into some of those thunderstorms, 27 degrees.
