i want to point out shanghai here on our temperature chart, 38 degrees and bright sunshine. that's going to feel very intense indeed, but you're tapping into some of those showers a little further north in seoul. on into the americas. more rain here spread out across the eastern third of the united states. a lot of heavy rain. that's going to be the main concern here. but you'll also see gusts up to about 90 kilometers an hour. further towards the north along the u.s./canada border, we have the low moving through onontari. and more wet weather out here towards the southwest. we've been talking about flash flooding happening in nevada as well as in arizona. the suburbs of phoenix we were talking about very dramatic rescue there of people being air lifted out of their vehicle that got submerged in waters. well, things are going to be wet here into your monday as well. temperaturewise staying hot in the center of the continent. denver down through houston in the mid-30s there. little cooler up towards the northeast, new york tapping into some of those thunderstorms, 27 degrees.

shanghai, 37 to start off your weekend. look towards the americas. what's going on here? well, the southwest monsoon, that moisture being pulled out of the pacific still bringing showers in mexico, four corners region, risk of thunderstorms and also flash flooding out of that as well in the short-time heavy rain. but the bulk of the severe weather is off to the north. you can even see on satellite picture that cold front starting to develop towards the midwest pushing off towards the east. that is going to bring some thunderstorm activity in places like chicago over towards detroit, into buffalo as well as that does continue to push through the great lakes region. we've already been seeing some hail out here, up to about golf ball size. winds, damaging winds very welcoming out of this. don't be surprised if you hear of a report of a tornado or two with it. not a big tornado outbreak, but it is going to be packing quite a punch as it pushes off to the east being fueled by the absolutely steamy and warm temperatures we have been seeing across the northeast. right now chicag

now, the heat is extending in southern japan in towards the shanghai region. we've got a couple of strong high pressure systems that are causing it. japan has been particularly suffering with that heat and some temperatures that recorded on thursday we'll show you just why that is nearing the 40 degree mark in places like hatoyama. into the weekend we are likely to see a little respite which is certainly good news from the mid-30s, upper 30s down to the low 30s in tokyo, nagoya as well as fukuoka. should feel a little more comfortable and alleviate that heat. into the americas, the eastern seaboard is likely to see thunderstorms all the way down in fact to the gulf states. we have another area of severe weather making its way along the u.s./canada border, alberta and north dakota are going to be dealing with that. you can even see tornadoes up here. it's this rain that's just developing there if you can spot it. and then down to the southwest we've got that monsoonal flow we've been talking about, thunderstorms here and the potential for short-time heavy rain.

as far as temperatures though, shanghai with a high of 38, seoul at 29, seeing showers here. tokyo, cloudy skies but don't be surprised if you see an afternoon thunderstorm pop-up especially inland going through wednesday afternoon into the evening hours. let's talk about the americas. really, it's the meandering jet stream out here which is dominating the weather pattern right now. i'll show you what i mean here. over towards the west we have this high pressure ridge. and look how far north that jet stream is continuing to push. then it dives down into the gulf of mexico where you have this low pressure area though that is the air being lifted up. and it's also dragging in this moisture in from the south off the atlantic pushing it on shore. the next several days many areas see about 50 to 100 millimeters of rainfall. already flash flood watches in effect here as well. and even some strong storms, actually a tornado reported in new jersey. so this is going to be continuing to be a problem through the next several days. it's just the fact that this is lingering, it's not goin
