Very Nice Noise

This experiment is official over...

Very Nice Noise is primarily a netlabel, which means that we offer music that is available exclusively through free MP3 downloads, and we will eventually start releasing the occasional CD-R and DVD-R releases as well. All MP3 releases on this site are free for you to download and distribute as you wish, as long as it it not done for profit. The label was started to help give more control back to the talented artists of the noise "music" community by way of faster turn around times on releases, no file type restrictions (if you want to release in the less popular OGG format, that's cool with us) and by giving artists the ability to maintain their own artist profile on the site. Our genre focus, as our name suggests is noise (harsh noise, drone, glitch, power electronics and the like).

Very Nice Noise is a non-profit project, and any earnings made from the sale of our physical releases and other merchandise is applied towards our web site hosting fees and future physical releases. All rights of the artists and of their recorded material are reserved. All tracks and tracks and graphics are copyright of their respective authors.

Drones and glitched out samples are mixed together with abstract beats that will leave you wanting more. Well it left me wanting more, at just over 16 minutes, it's definitely too short, so we're definitely looking forward to a follow up in the future.

Kai said it best when describing this release as "the kind of noise that can give you loads of energy, or can make you completely insane!" This release definitely delivers, it's glitch packed from beginning to end, and hopefully you won't lose your mind from listening to it!

Just after settling down from an Australian tour in support of last release, "Stereo 8" (a box set featuring eight 8-track cassettes) the experimental act known as A Street Car Named Vagina set out to capture the visceral sound that had taken them well over a decade to develope. Recorded November 5th, 2008 in an unsecured bunker in the Midwest comes "onetwothree", done in a single take with the rawest of materials and without any post-processing whatsoever. I was advised...

Moments of atmospheric bliss twisting and turning into chaotic harsh noise and then morphing into obscure beat driven electro. You won't get bored listening to this one, I promise. From Hourglass: "This album is for all the people who still believe in what our ancestors learned us!!!"

The first official Insecticide Lobotomy release. This release was my 20th recorded "experiment" and marks the moment when I felt comfortable enough to release a full album. Incidentally, this was originally released on the wonderful Noise-Joy netlabel, but due to their downloads being offline for a while, I decided to release under my own imprint.

Sixteen Years of Being Afraid is a mixture of harsh noise and 8-bit sounds that can only be describe as a computer gone awry. The textures created are woven into a composition that is full of high and low dynamics that I find very easy to listen to and comprehend plus a sense of emotion that ties the soundtrack back to it's title. The included text file includes the original titles in Russian.

Heavy and rhythmic like the soundtrack to the Industrial era, Splendor Solis taps into the heart of a factory system producing cogs for the masses. Audibly expanding and contracting like dragon's breathing, I wonder how many lives it has consumed.

Probably some of the most rhythmic harsh noise you will ever hear. Glitches are used to simulate machine gun rhythms and other effects / noises are layered in and around to give a sense of actual song structure as well as dynamics. The waves of complex harsh noise and industrial elements swell and diminish just often enough to make sure you don't suffer from ear strain.

Needle Nightclub Noise, the latest on Very Nice Noise by Hourglass Drops is short (perhaps too short) 4 track harsh noise endeavor. The album incorporates a good number of vocal samples (tastefully I might add) and a precise level of glitchiness that only Hourglass Drops can manifest.

Indra is an improvised recording made using a just laptop, a contact-miked Indian drum and a delay pedal. It's named after the Vedic god of war and weather, and, as such, is an expression of raw emotion and subconscious mindsets as much as a "serious", exploratory electroacoustic records. It incorporates elements of psychedelic music, harsh noise, glitch, ambient and more.

Apathy by Bulgarian noisician GENDA is a very short (2 tracks) industrial noise endeavor. The tile track takes ambient textures and mixes them with industrial clanks and scrapes to create a soundtrack for life in some sort of futuristic factory (like something out of the Alien movies). Porno nation takes the same formula and shakes it up with some samples of orgasmic moaning. Even though it's short, this release provides some very complex and dense listening.

Four untitled tracks of harsh fucking noise from tomb whacker and assholemouthead. The front of the split is assholemouthead and the tracks carry a very lo-fi aesthetic (they sound like they were recorded in a cave, in a good way) with a very spacey / eerie vibe. The back side of the split is tomb whacker, with a denser more complex contribution. Both artists' tracks have good movement that keep your ears from going numb.

android: agitated started as a live versus set between Black Beast of Arrrghhh and Insecticide Lobotomy. After great success with said versus set, the scenario grew into a harsh noise recording unit. The duo does not gig on a regular basis but will make a public appearances upon request.

Not sure I can describe this one any better than the title. The release is harsh noise in nature, and very rhythmic (like a dance album). Definitely a fun change to all the harsh noise that's devoid of rhythm.

This self-titled effort is very focused on abstract beats and glitched out rhythms. Progressive layering of sounds and good track to track dynamics keep this release from boring the listener, but it's also very easy to let this one sit on repeat and act as a background soundtrack.

As the name may suggest, most of the tracks on this release give the listener the feeling of being locked in a cell and the dementia that may follow. Interspersed between the survival genre-esque tracks are some gems of harsh noise to keep the release varied enough to be interesting.

This is a very diverse release. Opening tracks are very aggressive and have elements of grindcore and harsh noise but slows to more ambient soundscapes that are reminiscent of a soundtrack to a horror movie. Not sure I could listen to this one with the lights out.

After a bit of hiatus VNN is back with a release by KOMBINAT. I'm not entirely sure if there's a sub-genre of noise called "space noise" but that's how I'm describing this one. Very atmospheric and it just feels like you're floating around and exploring some alien space craft outside Alpha Centauri.

Glitch the way it should be. No care for rhythm, structure, pattern, or reason. Using samples from shows like Heroes to musicians like Devin Townsend, this release is over an hour of glitched noise. Originally released under the name of "Zero Acid".

Dark textures, ambient soundscapes, abrasive and guttural layers of harsh noise all the while being very slow moving (not like a bad movie, more like waiting for the end of the world). Great wall/harsh noise for your ear drums.

From the Monotony of Sleep reminds of a whacked out dreamscape which it is the soundtrack. Starting with mostly subdued ambient textures, the release begins to pick up steam with an interspersion of beats and harsh noise only to resolve itself with static and fuzz before the flame on the candle fades away.

More than just harsh noise, Yes Chef! presents you with an audible odyssey. "Pistol Whip" stirs up feelings of despair as if you're traveling down the rabbit hole and through the seven circles of hell. The title track is significantly more subtle as if you're going to make an easy escape... but then it takes the back road. Let's just say it's a bumpy ride back.

Harsh noise from the UK coming at you in a low fidelity bit rate of 32kbps. A very punishing release that doesn't let up bit is very manageable to listen to with the warmth of the lower bit rate. Many of the sounds are reminiscent of vintage arcade games (think Pac-Man / Galaga era) and that pretty much sends it over the top for me.

"This release takes me back to some of my earlier roots with noise when I would record "experiments". These experiments were often just new things that I hadn't tried before and was curious about. This particular experiment took me to two places I don't often visit, the first being computer noise. I don't hate computer noise, I just don't often partake in it. The second is using field recordings. Again, not opposed to them, just has never really been my thing. I prefer to...
