The box was produced later than the books, perhaps in the nineteenth century. The bottom of the box is likely the correct box, but the lid is incorrect. It has the title Sankash (Collection of a Mountain Home) on it, which is the poet Saigy (1118-1190) personal poetry collection
The box has a triple aoi (heartvine) motif on the small knobs that holds the cords, which is the crest of the Tokugawa family; the box and/or books may have come from some branches of the Tokugawa or Matsudaira families (two ruling clans of the Tokugawa period, 1600-1868
