I totally missed this track. It was intended for our recent end-of-year compilation and it got bogged down in my inbox. I am so sorry to Christopher Alvarado and Stephen Briggs for my oversight ... and to make it up to them I've decided to release it as a free single. That said, I am also releasing it because it is a superb piece of music ... a track where two distinct musicians have come together to make something new and unique ... a synergy, so to speak, and a fabulous one at that. This is...

I'll admit to being new to Generative Music, it is not something I was aware was "a thing" until Thomas Jackson Park pitched the idea to me for his track on last year's compilation, all|is|bright_2020 ... I was intrigued and did a bit of digging. According to Wikipedia, Generative Music is a term popularised by Brian Eno to describe music that is ever-different and changing, and that is created by a system. I was further intrigued and, through our correspondence, Jackson Park let me...

Sometimes life just doesn’t go to plan: People you hold in high regard let you down, risks you take don’t pay off and end up costing you dear, and that great idea that you had turns out to be anything but; you know what I mean. When life gets like that I try to retreat, refocus, and restart; and I greatly appreciate music that helps me do that. The twenty-eighth dronescape from Cousin Silas is one such piece of music and, to be honest, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Its rich,...

"The most merciful thing in the world, I think, is the inability of the human mind to correlate all its contents... some day the piecing together of dissociated knowledge will open up such terrifying vistas of reality, and of our frightful position therein, that we shall either go mad from the revelation or flee from the light into the peace and safety of a new Dark Age." - HPLovecraft - The Call of Cthulu 'Into The Dark | volume iii (waag_rel055)' - the third and final instalment in...

"Silas & Friends vol2 (waag_rel032)" is weareallghosts' fiftieth release and what a release it is … a real smorgasbord of sounds from my fave musician and his wonderfully, delightfully, fantastically eclectic group of chums … most of whom I consider friends too. I have looked forward to this compilation for some time and I am pleased to be able to finally release it. It is an album that has taken a considerable amount of effort to compile and it stands as a testament to the...

Cousin Silas' dronescapes have really grown from strength to strength ... developing into something of 'must have' recording for me. I tend to listen to at least one a day and love the headspace they give me. I know I am not alone ... and really appreciate all the comments I receive when one is released. I also value the support that some in the WAAG community provided and do not take it for granted. So this weekend we are going to put out not one ... but TWO dronescapes - 011 and 012. I...

"The birth pains of Titan 6 (waag_rel039)" is the soundtrack to a story that has yet to be told about the ill-fated sixth colony on Titan. It also marks the solo debut on weareallghosts of a man steeped in both ambient music and pulp science fiction - Ade Hodges. I've had this album for a wee while and have really enjoyed the themes it presents ... Ade has gone out his way to create an album that could easily be the soundtrack to a cult sci-fi film ... something dark and unsettling. I...

As I type this on Black Friday I am sitting in my house, at a small IKEA desk, listening to a Czech radio show who have featured the music of weareallghosts. It is raining outside, which is no surprise - it is November in the West of Scotland after all, and I am still nursing a concussion I received last week when I fell in the shower and hit my head on the toilet bowl. Taking this time out has really helped me to prioritise my life: I love my family and my friends, I love my job and...

The idea of collaboration has negative connotations as does compromise … but something truly beautiful can be born from working together, sharing a vision and journeying on the road of creation with one or two close friends. This is evidenced here, on this the fifth volume of collaborations from Cousin Silas and his friends. Over 5 CDs worth of music … 800+ mb of data if you choose 320kbps MP3 files … Cousin Silas and Friends vol 5 (waag_rel088) is a hefty celebration of truly independent...

The name UNATTRIBUTED is a play on words.  The artist is a long-time advocate of Creative Commons licensing, which fundamentally incorporates the idea of attribution. The idea of numbering the titles of releases and tracks is derived from a series of releases in which artists are allowed to explore any style of music they want, free from the confines of their percieved identity. UNATTRIBUTED is a cross-style project that is currently focusing on ambient, abstract, experimental, drone, and...

From the opening of “Serenity”, with the piano and synths in delightful collaboration, I knew I was onto something special ... and I was not disappointed: “Into Air (waag_rel134)” by Eric Goldberg aka Er Go is simply stunning, something truly beautiful.  Eric’s emphasis on melody and the warmth of the expansive ambient soundscapes that compliment these melodies really struck me as being very special indeed. I am a huge fan of the mid-seventies Tangerine Dream albums such as Phaedra and Rubycon. I love their sprawling nature and the twists and turns that these recordings take. I am also a big fan of the music of REDSHIFT. Albums like Ether and Halo have left an indelible mark on me. Again, I just adore their sprawling, apparently improvised soundscapes. It is in this context that I came to "Live at Vista" by Eraser Ears, a project involving Jaime Munárriz, a chap I've known for a wee...

It has been a wee while since we had a dronescape from Cousin Silas, partly because he’s been so busy releasing collaborations and albums on other netlabels. I’ve spoken before about my excitement when I get a dropbox link sent to me … I guess I’m as big a fan as anyone of Dave’s work and still get the feels when I hear a new dronescape from him. George Carlin once said ... "Have you ever started a path? No one seems willing to do this. We don't mind using existing paths, but we rarely start new ones. Do it today. Start a path. Even if it doesn't lead anywhere." This saying resonates with me for a number of reasons, too many in fact for here & now. What I will say, however, is how much I respect Cousin Silas' Dronescape project and how, in creating his own path, he’s created something that a lot of people have gained...

When Jaime Munárriz came to me and offered up another live recording from his Eraser Ears [Orejas Borradoras] collective, I jumped at the chance.  I love the soundscapes that they produce because they remind me of Tangerine Dream's seminal mid-70s period: albums like "Rubycon" and "Phaedra" were instrumental in my love and understanding of the broad church called "ambient music" ... and Eraser Ears do remind me of these spontaneous adventures in sound. ...

“The Stars In The Bright Sky (waag_aa002_1)” is the first of four pieces by Stephen Briggs that are intended for the season of Advent. Advent, for me, is about mystery and there is nothing more mysterious than the stars in the night sky. Briggs’ first piece conveys, through a moving looped and layered ambient guitar instrumental, this sense of mystery before settling on a tune that will be very familiar to some. The four soundscapes that will make up this second “Ambient Advent”...

Beginning where the first album left off, "The Three Imposters 2" is further evidence of the creative outpouring that occurred in July 2016 when Cousin Silas, Tim Jones & Kevin Lyons got together to watch obscure Hammer Horror films, eat pizza, drink too much coffee, and discuss their shared love for Arthur Machen's influential weird fiction.  Samples of found sounds, glitchy Radiophonic loops, washes of the most languid synths, an otherworldly choir, and Silas' trademark ambient...

"Philharmony" is a derived word that originates from the adjective "Philmarmonic" which means to be fond of or devoted to music ... and is an apt descriptor for weareallghosts, for Simon and for me ... we love music and share an ongoing, active love for music in all its forms albeit with a...

I have a whole heap of love for Thomas Park aka Mystified and the music he creates: the drone he released on the 31st December, 2012; is a fantastic piece of music … as is the piece he contributed to our end-of-year compilation. He is a talented chap and I am delighted to have him as part of weareallghosts. And it is this latter piece - "Network" - which kicked off this four-track EP. It became the starting point for the music on "Ghosts That Dance (waag_rel018)". I was so...

Adam Greenhead aka Coloured Lines is a musician and educator who lives in the North of England. He plays bass in an energetic folky rock band called Sawsound and is a founding member of the New Underground Collective ... a diverse group of creatives that includes another waag alumnus - Wolfgang Merx. I have thoroughly enjoyed his previous self-released music and have a soft spot for his band's music too ... so you can appreciate, I jumped at the chance to release this EP when it was offered to...

Good Friday was inspired by observing the power of crowds … how the spirit of a crowd can change a person … take over them … make them do things they wouldn't otherwise consider doing. This spirit … the spirit that can turn a respected school teacher into a looter grasping for a TV in a riot … was evident on the first Good Friday … a day when the crowd took over. Good Friday was also inspired by the spirit that exists in a room or a building ... be it an incense-rich 15th century...

I have discovered a new pleasure ... lying in my hammock in my backgarden listening to Cousin Silas' dronescapes. I live in Scotland so I don't get many opportunities but when I do ... like I did today ... it was simply stunning. The 7th instalment in Silas' dronescapes takes the series forward ... it is 72 minutes of floaty, blissed-out, musical sunshine. It fitted perfectly with a lazy rest-filled day in the garden ... reading and recharging in the sun. I've never liked the tag 'chill out...

According to the dictionary, recrudescence means ... "breaking out afresh or into renewed activity; revival or reappearance in active existence" ... and it is a fitting albeit tongue-tying title for a collection of music by Cousin Silas that he himself has remixed, rearranged and revived.  Recrudescence means to reopen and make raw again as in to reopen a wound. I see this more as a potter remoulding their clay, reshaping it, reusing it as they see fit. Silas is the potter and his...

“We wait for the light (waag_aa002_2)” is the second of four pieces by Stephen Briggs that are intended for the season of Advent. Darker than the previous soundscape, "We wait for the light" is all about anticipation ... of waiting and watching ... of wondering about the future. The four soundscapes that will make up this second “Ambient Advent” collection are designed for contemplation and meditation during what has become a very busy period. Regardless how you celebrate this...

I love a good compilation for two reasons - they are a great way of discovering new music … and as I like to listen to a variety of music, a well curated compilation with a number of contributors gives me the variety I seek. This time last year I never dreamed I would have my own netlabel … and I certainly never dreamed I would be putting out my first compilation on said netlabel … a compilation that showcases wonderful independent talent. Some of the artists featured on this compilation...

At summer's end, as the nights draw in, we need as much light and hope as possible. As the UK endures a second wave of the Covid-19 pandemic and restrictions are being reintroduced, we need something to keep us going ... something to remind us that the sun is still shining above the clouds.  And it is in this environment, that Cousin Silas brings the fourth part of his " ... and friends, volume eight", a wonderful mix of the familiar ("Portland (Rework)" by Cousin Silas...

Jack Hertz is a netlabel hero. His music, particularly for Free Floating, is first class and exemplary of the ambient genre. I was honoured when he approached me with a forerunner to what you have here. I was blown away by the music he offered me and, to be honest, still am. wearenotghosts, as a netlabel, is all about the music and not about personalities. That said, it has some truly wonderful personalities within its ranks who make my life so much richer. I am delighted to add Hertz to this...

It has been a busy wee while of late and this week was no exception. When I’m tired I turn to the dronescapes of Cousin Silas - they give me respite, they provide a place to go when all I want to do is turn off the world for an hour and relax. The latest instalment in the dronescape series - the twenty-second instalment in fact - is a marvellous example of this. It’s rich, luscious tone is a balm to my weary soul. It engulfs me with the delightfully paradoxical feeling of the new familiar....

In case you missed it last month ... Scott Lawlor has been inspired by the work of Cousin Silas and is going on his own journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes. He intends to producing a series of these drone.excursion longform pieces and I am proud to support him with this endeavour. drone.excursion.002 (waag_dex002) aka 'Into the Industrial Complex' is a subtler piece ... less dissonant than the first drone.excursion whilst still retaining the sense of movement that was conveyed by it's...

Three tracks of caustic city-driven technoustica, built from the minutia of old session recordings, hauntological cassette tapes of unknown origin, recombinant soundscapes, extracted percussion, and the processed ghosts of sound objects inhabiting the spaces I come into contact with. "Translucence (waag_rrl002)" is only our second rereleased album on weareallghosts ... rereleased because it is simply that good. Christopher Alvarado is a talented musician who has a vision for ambient music that I share and deeply admire ... he creates truly immersive soundscapes with synths and guitars, vocals and percussion, that have an otherworldliness about them that is simply intoxicating. Alvarado's hypnotic headphone music is an utter treat, one that I have partaken of in...

I have a considerable amount of affection for the music of William Spivey - his ambient-infused melodic electronica is an utter delight and I am proud to release "Glimpse (waag_rel051)" on weareallghosts. With "Glimpse (waag_rel051)" Spivey has cooked up a luscious sound-banquet that features a number of flavours that will indulge all your senses and captivate your heart. Whilst I love his purely ambient pieces, I do appreciate it when Spivey adds beats, utilises sequencers...

Creation By Inertia (waag_rel052) by Christopher Alvarado is a remarkable recording, one I am proud to release on weareallghosts. I am extremely grateful to Christopher Alvarado for the opportunity to release this album. It is, like all music released on waag, music I want to listen to. Creation By Inertia (waag_rel052) features my kind of sounds - soundscapes that incorporate deliciously progressive percussion with sci-fi synths and otherworldly ambience to create trance-like states of...

Cousin Silas sent me this track as a 'thank you' for the work I have done for him in 2012. What with releasing his music and designing covers for both weareallghosts and other labels ... he's a taskmaster ... but a gracious one who rewards me with his trust and with his friendship ... two things I treasure deeply. When I heard it I was overcome ... it is a beautiful track and one I just could not keep to myself. So here it is ... Cousin Silas' 'thank you' to me becomes my 'thank you' to you ......

Cousin Silas is my A&R man. He is always recommending new music to me and introducing me to some of the fabulously talent people he calls friends. Kevin Lyons is one such friend. I was bowled over when Kevin sent through the tracks that would later form the basis of "The Lost Room (waag_rel019)" , our 27th release on weareallghosts. The depth of expression contained within the 15 tracks simply stunned me … each track stood on its own merits as its own self-contained piece of...

I was delighted when Apta offered this EP for release on weareallghosts... it's the kind of music we wish to promote by the kind of musician worthy of promotion. I hope you enjoy it as much as I have! Thomas I have made this EP as an attempt to fuse together the contrasting styles of music I love. By encompassing the melodic sensibilities of instrumental post-rock with the slightly skittish rhythmic nature of IDM and electronic music, I am trying to refine my sound into a cohesive whole. It has been just over a month since we released the previous 2 instalments of Cousin Silas' Dronescape series ... and I couldn't wait to bring another one to you. And what an instalment this is!!! The 13th Dronescape is a bold, upfront exploration of space and time through ambient sound. It is 70 minutes of sheer of unadulterated joy ... a truly immersive longform journey with an almost tangible sense of cinematic proportion ... and I, for one, love it. The Advent period is a very busy time for me and sometimes it feels like the run-up to Christmas is too much. When it gets to that point I take solace in the music of Cousin Silas and, in particular, his dronescapes. The fourteenth dronescape (yes, we have released fourteen dronescapes in 2013!) is a welcome addition to his canon ... a body of work that just seems get better as time passes. I won't say anymore other than to implore you to take the time out to go deep. I know I will. An MP3...

It is always good to try something new and "dronescape 001 (waag_drs001)" is very much 'a new thing' for two reasons: First off, it is Cousin Silas' first real attempt at a really longform ambient drone ... and Secondly, it marks the beginning of a new series for weareallghosts - the 'dronescape' series that is specifically designed for longform ambient drones of, or around, the 60 minute mark. I love longform drones and I know you do too from your warm reception of the work of...
