On a rainy, miserable day in May ... we still have hope for the future. There is light at the end of the tunnel and, as shops and restaurants open, we have a taste of what we've missed for so long ... and it tastes good. And it is in this environment, that Cousin Silas brings the sixth and last part of his " ... and friends, volume eight", a wonderful mix of delightfully gentle ambience ("Starscapes" by Cousin Silas & Pat Pik, and "Travelling In Opposite...

“Through a Cobweb Strange (waag_rel069)” from Cousin Silas … affectionately referred to as “the disco album” when discussing it with Dave prior to release … is full of beats. In fact, “Through a Cobweb Strange (waag_rel069)” features fifteen downtempo tracks that combine Silas’ particular style of ambient guitar with varying degrees of percussion. I love the variety of Cousin Silas’ music and gravitate towards different elements depending on my mood. He can and does turn his...

I really enjoyed listening to Cousin Silas' first voyage into Berlin School style longform electronic adventures, Unlimited Boundaries (waag_rel114) ... I still do, in fact, and never thought a follow-up would be so hot on its heels. Galactic Procession (waag_rel116) follows closely in the footsteps of its predecessor albeit with a sound that is, again, reminiscent of Virgin-era Tangerine Dream or Klaus Schulze. It isn't a rehashing of the work that's come before ... either Silas or...

"Translucence (waag_rrl002)" is only our second rereleased album on weareallghosts ... rereleased because it is simply that good. Christopher Alvarado is a talented musician who has a vision for ambient music that I share and deeply admire ... he creates truly immersive soundscapes with synths and guitars, vocals and percussion, that have an otherworldliness about them that is simply intoxicating. Alvarado's hypnotic headphone music is an utter treat, one that I have partaken of in...

For our sophomore release on weareallghosts , we have something very special indeed... a collaboration between spoken word poet and soprano Rebekkah Hilgraves and ambient musician Cousin Silas... Rebekkah's Cousin Silas. "The devil came to me" comes in four parts... an initial longform piece entitled "Rachel (above adversity)" that sets the scene for "the Rachel suite" - 15 tracks with themes of defiance... of being in the presence of evil and of overcoming... the...

I am a big fan of longform ambient soundscapes … I am also a big fan of Kevin Lyons’ music, so you can imagine my delight when he submitted a longform piece for my consideration. You’d think I would be sick of them after 28 dronescapes but nothing could be further from the truth … I love them! and I love the fact that Lyons was inspired by our favourite cousin to give longform a try. This creative cross-pollination makes me very happy indeed. Clocking in at just under 70 minutes,...

For me, it is wonderfully bittersweet to release "Scenes from Suburbia (waag_rel136)" by Cousin Silas & Candy L so close to Candy's birthday ... I'm not sure how old she would have been if she had not lost her battle against cancer and, to be honest, it doesn't matter ... what matters is that the world and our wee community of DIY ambient musicians is considerably poorer for her not being with us. "Scenes from Suburbia (waag_rel136)" was created in collaboration...

Now here's something new: some modern classical music for you on weareallghosts. I was approached by George L Smyth a wee while ago now with a couple of the tracks that now appear on this album. His email came out-of-the-blue (I'm not a big fan of unsolicited contact) but as he was a friend of Rebekkah Hilgraves and had featured on her show, I was willing to take time out to listen to what he had ... and I am so glad I did! In the Green Light (waag_rel056) by Ade Hodges & Cousin Silas is the next instalment in an ongoing series of collaborations between the two artists. It features six earthy, nearly impenetrable walls-of-sound that are not for the claustrophobic. In the Green Light (waag_rel056) is an immense album of truly immersive beauty, one that is as spatial as it is aural. There is both a breadth and a density within these tracks that takes the listener's breath away, it is as if Hodges and Silas have...

Welcome to the twenty-first dronescape from Cousin Silas, another post-70 minute piece from someone who I personally think is at the top of their game. Coming off the back of his first CD on weareallghosts, this dronescape provides a fitting rest. It is an open and spacious drone filled with wonder and the anticipation of the unknown. It is a delight. I hope you enjoy Dronescape 021 as much as I do. - Tx

Weird fiction deserves weird music. When I read H.P.Lovecraft, I must do so with weird music in my ears. Over the years, my go-to for the soundtrack has been Emmalee Crane. That is until now. “Internal Furniture (waag_rel076)” is a deliciously weird collaboration between Cousin Silas, Tim Jones and Kevin Lyons; that was conceived during a long weekend together in Yorkshire. When the cat is away, the mice will play and boy did these mice play. Fuelled by horror movies, old TV shows and pulp...

Scott Lawlor continues on his journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes with the fourth in his drone.excursion series. drone.excursion.004 (waag_dex004) aka 'harmonic convergence' is a delightful drone that builds in significance in the listener's consciousness. There is a slow evolution in the chords used over the 72 minute duration that together feeds the mind and provides space for contemplation and flow. drone.excursion.004 (waag_dex004) is another enjoyable longform drone from Scott and I...

With "The Sound of Space (waag_rel034)", Colin Blake has expressed his love and admiration for all things 'space'. In his intricate notes that accompanied his submission, he speaks of the birth of new stars, and of life on more than just Earth … of comets, and the songs star-clouds sing as new stars are born … of solar flares, and travel to distant galaxies; it makes for fascinating reading. More than that, it makes for fascinating music - sci-fi orientated ambient electronic...

As with Recrudescence (waag_rel094) our favourite Cousin has reworked his original soundscapes (the exact ones he will not divulge to me) to create something wonderfully fresh and new that will enthral all who listen. Permutations consists of seven tracks that vary in length for approximately six and a half minutes through to nearly seventeen. Corrugate is two tracks of roughly the same ilk that I produced in the first half of 2014. Thanks to Thomas Mathie, Wolfgang Merx, Dario Lozano-Thornton, Phil Begg, Grace Smith, Nichola Stafford, Michael Bridgewater, Adam Denton, Mark Hadman, Crow Versus Crow, Stephen Ferrell, Roo Carpenter, Michael Hann, the twitter community, WAAG and others for all sorts of reasons. Special thanks to Thomas for agreeing to float this boat, and for, as always, making this thing possible. This will probably...

"The Time Dwellers" is the fourth album from Cousin Silas & Kevin Lyons, an album of considerable beauty, one that further cements their creative partnership. This is music for the imagination, music that will inspire uniquely personal connections in each individual. Silas & Lyons’ pairing particular form of experimental ambient music is tailor-made for listeners who love nothing more than to be fully immersed in otherworldly, expansive aural environments; and it just seems...

Scott Lawlor continues on his journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes with the third in his drone.excursion series. drone.excursion.003 (waag_dex003) aka 'uncertainty of suspense' is a fluid piece ... one that has a sense of movement while retaining an impression of artifice and of the man-made, like it's predecessor. drone.excursion.003 (waag_dex003) is another delightful longform drone from Scott and I really do hope you will enjoy it as much as I have ... I found it a worthwhile journey...

"I suppose I shall have to translate this," said the antiquary to himself, as he finished copying the above lines from that rather rare and exceedingly diffuse book, the Sertum Steinfeldense Norbertinum."Well, it may as well be done first as last," and accordingly the following rendering was very quickly produced … - “The Treasure of Abbott Thomas” by Dr M.R.James Nothing beats a good ghost story at this time of the year … and nothing beats a ghost story from Dr...

What better way to start 2022 than with "Music For The Dark Days" ... an EP from the collaborative partnership of electronic musicians EISENLAGER and Sergio Mariani aka EISENLAGER MARIANI. "Music For The Dark Days" features four exceptionally beautiful ambient electronic tracks that expertly convey the dark days of winter ... the cold, biting wind and incessant, uncomfortable darkness ... the beating of your heart as move slowly, struggling with deep snow ... that sound of...

I recently renewed my Audible subscription and have been intently listening to the audiobook I downloaded from the HP Lovecraft Historical Society's anthology, it boasts of being the complete works of HP Lovecraft and it is a most wonderful listen. The HPLHS have invested a considerable amount of time and effort to really make the stories shine, if shine be the right term for such sinister and otherworldly eldritch tales. If I were to read these weird tales rather than listen to them then I...

Into The Dark | volume ii (waag_rel045)' is the second in a trilogy of dark, atmospheric, and rather sinister sounding ambient albums from my dear friend and everyone's favourite hoarder of electric guitars, Cousin Silas. In keeping with the first volume (waag_rel038), this is an album where Cousin Silas goes back to his darker ambient roots. It continues down the deliciously dark and deeply atmospheric rabbit-hole that waag_rel038 started down ... back before Christmas. Six tracks of longish...

I am deeply honoured to present "Without Sin" from Detroit based musician Matthew VandenBrook and am proud to welcome him to the weareallghosts community. "Without Sin" is a fitting piece to be released on Good Friday, 2014 ... and while each listener will make of it what they will ... I, for one, have received remarkable inspiration from this piece as I have walked my own, personal Lenten journey. It is a dark, brooding piece of longform ambient music that threatens to...

A while back Colin Blake had an idea: to create 30 minute slices of sci-fi ambient, slices that could easily fit on the side of a C60 cassette tape. Since the release of “Cones” I was sold on the idea and I have looked for more. Faith (waag_rel072) is the first in a three-part series that follows Colin’s original C60 idea. Faith is presented as two “sides”: part 1 and part 2, both run near to 30 minutes each and feature some delightfully mysterious ambient music. Over the next few...

The Advent period is a very busy time for me and sometimes it feels like the run-up to Christmas is too much. When it gets to that point I take solace in the music of Cousin Silas and, in particular, his dronescapes. The fourteenth dronescape (yes, we have released fourteen dronescapes in 2013!) is a welcome addition to his canon ... a body of work that just seems get better as time passes. I won't say anymore other than to implore you to take the time out to go deep. I know I will. An MP3...

It is always good to try something new and "dronescape 001 (waag_drs001)" is very much 'a new thing' for two reasons: First off, it is Cousin Silas' first real attempt at a really longform ambient drone ... and Secondly, it marks the beginning of a new series for weareallghosts - the 'dronescape' series that is specifically designed for longform ambient drones of, or around, the 60 minute mark. I love longform drones and I know you do too from your warm reception of the work of...

Sometimes life just doesn’t go to plan: People you hold in high regard let you down, risks you take don’t pay off and end up costing you dear, and that great idea that you had turns out to be anything but; you know what I mean. When life gets like that I try to retreat, refocus, and restart; and I greatly appreciate music that helps me do that. The twenty-eighth dronescape from Cousin Silas is one such piece of music and, to be honest, it couldn’t have come at a better time. Its rich,...

George Carlin once said ... "Have you ever started a path? No one seems willing to do this. We don't mind using existing paths, but we rarely start new ones. Do it today. Start a path. Even if it doesn't lead anywhere." This saying resonates with me for a number of reasons, too many in fact for here & now. What I will say, however, is how much I respect Cousin Silas' Dronescape project and how, in creating his own path, he’s created something that a lot of people have gained...

The fourth TWANG continues Cousin Silas' series of atmospheric ambient and experimental soundscapes that were each recorded in a single take with no overdubs or edits. Featuring 13 tracks from the original release and 2 further "bonus" tracks for this release, Twang Four is another fine continuation of and addition to the Twang series. From the opening track - "Inside The Pink Vortex" - through to the final track - "The Bells On Satellite 7" - this is a wonderful...

Cousin Silas' dronescapes have really grown from strength to strength ... developing into something of 'must have' recording for me. I tend to listen to at least one a day and love the headspace they give me. I know I am not alone ... and really appreciate all the comments I receive when one is released. I also value the support that some in the WAAG community provided and do not take it for granted. So this weekend we are going to put out not one ... but TWO dronescapes - 011 and 012. I...

I love long form drones. I have expressed this love previously when discussing "Stigma (waag_rel006)" by Earlyguard ( weareallghosts.bandcamp.com/album/stigma-waag-rel006 ). Longform drones give me space to think and to be within. I know this may sound a bit weird to some folk but it is my experience … longform drones are a very pleasant distraction from the hustle and bustle of daily life … they provide the opportunity to be immersed in sound for an extended period of time …...

I have a black-and-blue mark on my arm … its been there for a long while and won't be disappearing any time soon. Its there as a result of my need to pinch myself each and every time I listen to the music on weareallghosts. I need to pinch myself to ensure I am not dreaming … that this wee netlabel isn't in fact some ridiculous fantasy of the calibre of an episode of Dallas. The music I have had the privilege to release is truly exceptional and some of my favourite music from the last year...

A few months back, Wolfgang Gsell, ambient artist extraordinare and radio show host ( www.modul303.com ), posted a call for music for his upcoming themed shows. At first, I planned to just do a series of pieces for the shows. Then, I realized that this was a wonderful opportunity to kick-start some collaborations so I created a set of base tracks reflecting the themes listed by Wolfgang: Winter, Holy and Silent, Memories, Weightless, and Mountains. Some wonderful ambient composers agreed to...

This is Cousin Silas' 200th release. Not with weareallghosts, although we do have a good share of those 3 digits, but in total. 200 releases. 200 pieces of music brought into this world for folks like you and me to enjoy. I am both astounded by this and grateful that "Unlimited Boundaries (waag_rel114)" found a home with waag. "Unlimited Boundaries (waag_rel114)" is a wonderfully peaceful, 60 minute long, electronic piece in the Berlin School style of Virgin Records-era...

Cousin Silas’ thirty-second dronescape is dedicated to the memory of Dame Zaha Hadid, the exceptional British architect who died recently. According to Wikipedia, Hadid liberated architectural geometry with the creation of highly expressive, sweeping fluid forms of multiple perspective points and fragmented geometry that evoke the chaos and flux of modern life. I marvel at Hadid’s creations, especially the Riverside Museum in Glasgow (pictured on the album cover) … she was a true...

Jack Hertz is a netlabel hero. His music, particularly for Free Floating, is first class and exemplary of the ambient genre. I was honoured when he approached me with a forerunner to what you have here. I was blown away by the music he offered me and, to be honest, still am. wearenotghosts, as a netlabel, is all about the music and not about personalities. That said, it has some truly wonderful personalities within its ranks who make my life so much richer. I am delighted to add Hertz to this...

“Sound then Silence (waag_rel064)” from Matthew VandenBrook is a wonderfully inventive album that brings a new dimension of sound to weareallghosts, something uniquely expressive and engaging. “Sound then Silence (waag_rel064)” explores more electronic and IDM-related genres, and does so in a manner that doesn’t negate VandenBrook’s ambient, drone-influenced, origins. In fact, tracks 6, 7 and 9 - “Reincarnation”, “Metempsychosis” and the title track “Sound then Silence”...

Times escape was originally recorded between 1996 and 1997 when I lived in the Akron Area of Ohio after years of gigging around playing in coffee houses and being a member of the Very Special Arts group. My inspirations for the cd range from Klaus Schulze, Tangerine Dream but especially the sleep concerts of Robert Rich. I had received one such concert on cassette tape from a friend in the mail and after listening to it while I slept at night, I wanted to try my hand at composing space music. I...

“Moirai (waag_rel058)” is the first release on weareallghosts from experimental electronic musician, Paul Randall aka Microvolt. It is a wonderful collection of delicate soundscapes with an intricacy that has captivated me since I first got to hear them a good few months ago. Paul Randall presents something beautiful with “Moirai (waag_rel058)”, something that fits nicely with the emerging waag ‘sound’ and yet broadens it too. This is my kind of experimental ambient: captivating and...

I have a lot of love for Scott Lawlor's music and was delighted to be approached by him to release his 'drone.excursion' series of longform drones. Inspired by the work of Cousin Silas, Lawlor is going on his own journey into post-sixty minute soundscapes ... and I am proud to support him in this endeavour. drone.excursion.001 (waag_dex001) aka 'the choral drone' is an intense vocal-orientated piece that reminds me of György Ligeti's "Atmospheres", a piece that is famous for being...

I love Stephen Briggs' particular brand of looping ambient guitar-orientated soundscapes and I am proud to present his latest release - "New Beginnings (waag_rel037)". According to Stephen, this is an album that explores themes of newness ... the newness of planted grass seed ... and of space ... the freedom of open space. Inspired by hot evenings and watching the water spraying on freshly pruned trees, "New Beginnings (waag_rel037)" is a delight from start to finish ......

I was recently asked what I get out of running a wee netlabel ... I replied almost immediately: I help bring beauty to this world. I'm not a musician. I wish I was but I am not. Neither am I an artist in the pen-and-paper / paint-and-canvas kind of way. Again, I wish I was but I am not. Whilst I am kind of handy with a camera and have a thing for arranging typefaces on images, the way I bring beauty to this world is to help musicians like Cousin Silas get their sounds out there. I don't believe...
