We have been working on a new HTML5 version of the uploader, and it is now available in beta if you'd like to try it out: http://archive.org/create/ (look for the Beta Uploader button).

The new uploader is capable of uploading much larger files than the old one, and you can add a wider variety of metadata if you need it. Please note that the beta uploader does NOT work in Internet Explorer due to the limitations of that browser. We recommend Chrome or Firefox for the best experience.

If you have comments on the beta uploader, please reply in this forum thread.

Thanks!

There seems to be a bug that cropped up in the uploader. Not sure how recent because I have not been using the online upload form for a long time.

I've noticed when I use preset metadata which contains the collection classicpcgames (which is software), it makes my item mediatype text. Which is not correct.

But if I manually choose the Classic PC Games collection on the form using the search box it correctly recognizes it as software.

Both of these routes upload the items to the correct collection.

of the sudden!
I have 792 uploads (mostly *MY* video tape rips) so I think that I have it down.

I just uploaded a file just like normal and it was SLOW but it got there. I was putting on the finishing touches on the 2nd part of a tape, I went to the uploader, choose the file and it didn't go to the page where you put in all of the info.

I rebooted, waited for an hour to try again but no info page!

I don't think that I did anything wrong and there was no error messages.

Thank You!,

Sean

I've used the Beta uploader several times before and it worked perfectly fine, but today (August 17, 2019) I am getting a 403 Forbidden Error when trying to upload files to the Live Music Archive.

Any ideas for how to correct this error? It waits until the first item finishes uploading to kick out the error. There is a "Resume", but it didn't help.

Thank you! This is the specific error message I am getting: There is a network problem Resume Uploading 403Forbidden(details) <?xml version='1.0' encoding='UTF-8'?> AccessDeniedAccess DeniedYou lack sufficient privileges to write to those collectionsbaa16809-94e0-4de6-99b0-2403e52956c2 And FYI, I'm using Windows 7 and the Chrome browser, which has worked for me fine 12 times before today for uploading shows to the ILMA. I just checked the Live Music Archive. Latest shows posted show 2019-08-16 (Friday) as the date. So we might not be the only ones with the 403 Forbidden Error, but many people might not go to the trouble of posting about it, assuming it is something they will fix.

Oh well, guess we'll find out next week, if anyone from the LMA responds to my post.

Thank you! Just glad to know the issue wasn't on my end. I've had few issues with the Beta Uploader, and it seems far easier to use for novices than trying to use an old FTP server thing.

Only thing I have noticed is that I *think* when I was first using it, it would automatically use an image uploaded beside of the graphical interface with the song titles AND become the Item Image for the page. The last two times I've had to go in and specifically set it to be the Item Image per the instructions in your FAQ. No biggie.

Thanks again! The ILMA is one of the best resources on the Internet.

Uploaded two folders the first of 20 files went quite quickly and additionally had the files available to experience in the archive.
The second folder containing 100 much larger files loaded with similar speed niether had any issue even as I performed other operations.

There is one request/question ... Is there anyway to provide a mobile upload capability?
I've tried and always recieved a
(low memory files couldn't be downloaded message)
Even though I've several gigs free memory.

With so many globally having only limited if any access to a desktop and many others on the move it would provide significant opportunity to increase the archives repository should one be provided a mobile to cloud capability.

Also, I went ahead and put on FIREFOX to try using that and it seems a lot slower. When I used Chrome, the green bar went across fast but then just stayed like that. With Firefox, so far, the green line is ever so slowly creeping along. It's at 7.4mb of 426mb and seems to be going about 2.5mb per minute

I don't like uploading to archive.org. Many errors, also 400 Bad data, but not why. You can also not skip that file, the only thing you can do is press "Resume" or so, just to get the same error.

It's also not easy to upload files in a subdirectory. The only way looks like you have to drag and drop it with the same structure.

Been trying to get it all uploaded and managed to upload 75 files in a couple of hours.. But I also have to use this javascript to keep it running:
```
setInterval(function() {
if (document.querySelector('#progress_msg').textContent == 'There is a network problem') {
document.querySelector('#overlay_alert button').click();
console.log('RESUME!!!!!!!!!!');
}
}, 5000);
```

"There Is No Preview Available For This Item"

Reviewing the RSS feed of EN text items being uploaded over the last several weeks I have noticed that many uploads, which comprise only a pdf, do not present an open book view, e.g.

https://archive.org/details/1960InternationCourtOfJustice

That one has just been notified via RSS but I recall seeing several others where there was no preview shortly after RSS notification nor also several days later, seemingly thereby precluding the possibility of delayed derive jobs being the cause.

Or is this a browser related issue concerned with e.g. cookies management or other issues?

And for items so affected, is there a manual fix that can be applied where the problem encountered, by the uploader if not by the reader?

Could IA look into this please?

Love it. Couple things I noticed or need to ask is whether putting all the info that we used to put in an "Info_Text.txt" file now need to be put into the Description field in order to get it to automatically display?

Does this take the place of uploading that "Info_Text.txt" file?

Other thing is that after I set some files to upload I decided to delete them and add more metadata to the actual files, then rechoose to upload them, but when I did that, the SELECT FILES TO ADD button would not work. I ended up having to use Drag & Drop to put them into the upload list (which worked fine).

Thanks!

I figured out that using the old trick of a delete subfolder doesn't work anymore, that the derived files delete process only works in the parent directory. Dragged the .flac back into the parent directory and then re-deleted and all the derived files then deleted.

Love it (so far). Just uploaded my first show using it. Spafford 2019-02-12. Works much easier than the old manual method (I never used the JAVA version due to security issues with JAVA, which I don't have on my PC).

Only thing I would ask (not related to the new HTML5 uploader) is that maybe the derived tracks (OGG and VBR mp3) files, could somehow be named by track number and title instead of the actual uploaded filename. Maybe give people a choice?

Also, I think which LICENSE to choose (or none) is a bit confusing for new tapers. Which should we choose for these audience concert recordings?

Finally, in order to show a placeholder photo for the show instead of the Archive "museum building" do I have to upload a jpeg instead of png? Or was that because I chose "Creative Commons, Non-Commercial, no derived works" for the license.

Thank you! The HTML5 uploader is a godsend for those of us unwilling to use JAVA. Much thanks and appreciation to the developers. I'm sure any "bugs" with it will be ironed out and it will make uploading shows easier for everyone, even newbies.

Hi,
I just tried to add a .mkv file to an existent archive (identifier). The uploader works, but I can't modify the file names in that archive anymore from the file list. This is really a problem. I think the old web uploader was not bad, and I had tried to upload some files bigger than 20GB. I'm gonna try with "ia"..
Regards!

Okay, I just noticed that with some delay (and w/o feedback to the user), the files I tried to rename, has been effectively renamed.
I like the uploader, but not the "file manager" as I see it now..

Hello archive.org,

I tried uploading to a item page, and I was immediately sent without confirmation or file moving after upload. I believe that the old interface had everything user-friendly. Also, there were greyed out folders/files, which in I was not able to move files there.

The upload still works, but a bit of file management is now missing. What's going on? Is email contact required to move files? How can I use the old uploader again?

Example would be here: https://archive.org/details/two_specific_missing_metal_albums

Maybe instead of a public release of a beta uploader, a few dedicated sample of users (over time) should volunteer to partake in managing and navigating the interface of the beta uploader?

It's almost like a focus study from marketing or something like that.

This % character is not recognized by the media player on my website so i can't upload it. whats the fix? or is the original uploader coming back anytime soon?

the fix is to not have any spaces in your file names. the old uploader automatically removed them. the current upload does not in order to retain files just aw they were uploaded. spaces need to be escaped to %20 in URLs so just avoid the spaces.

The uploading as such works somehow (much slower than before), I don't see the new features, but the real problem is that I can't delete files from my items anymore. I mean, I delete it, as usual, it disappears from the directory tree, but if I press "reload" it reappears. Also, I can still see it on the item page.

It's Chrome (and Mozilla), Win 8.1. Any suggestions?

It's auto-stupid. Seems to think an upload via Tor is ipso facto spam, although before rendering an error message to that effect it reports a 503 and enters a circulus inextricabilis of re-uploads if you allow it.
Please restore the prior arrangements which worked. At least as a user option. TIA

Well quite frankly I don't like that it doesn't work and there's no alternative. You are forcing your userbase to use a piece of software that isn't ready for production. You've had this HTML 5 uploader for years, and ironically back then when I joined, the beta actually worked. That's what I used.

I don't know what you guys did, but you broke it, and in such a way that it produces the same problem with every browser I have. At the very least please give us the option to use production ready software that isn't wrought with showstopping bugs.

saying it doesn't work does not help us resolve issues. please be specific.

there were over 3000 uploads yesterday using the uploader which is very typical https://archive.org/search.php?query=publicdate%3A2019-02-08%20AND%20scanner%3A%22Internet%20Archive%20HTML5%20Uploader%201.6.4%22

so it seems to work for alot of users.

Specifically, issues include 400s which you said you're aware of, and uploads stalling, which I'm sure you're also aware of.

And how many of those "uploads" are junk data from an upload that didn't work? I know the one I did yesterday was. Here's a couple more from your filtered list, and it looks like there's lots more.

https://archive.org/details/CristianismoFalsificadoC
https://archive.org/details/addons.DATA

I'm not someone to complain about something without proposing a solution. I think the solution here is pretty obvious. The old uploader worked.

if you look at the history of your item at https://catalogd.archive.org/history/FLIGHTSIM95 you'll see a yellow stripe over the server. that indicates it is read only while undergoing some maintenance. it could have happened during your upload which is why it failed to upload all the files.

that condition has absolutely nothing to do with the uploader itself. it is a server issue.

as far as the items you mentioned, the uploader deleted the files from those. the actual upload was fine.
the flash uploader is not going to come back.

The problem seems to be that the uploader will not add jpg photo files to an audio upload. The old system used to allow this. How can this be done so that there is a photo on the final page? I managed to upload a single small audio track using the new system, but it will not let me add a jpg file. It is nice to be able to have a photo image to illustrate the presentation page.

If I went ahead and "fixed" the file - it would no longer be the original unedited file provided by the website.

(Reason I'm doing this because the PDFs in question can't be directly saved in WBM)

The terminal command rejects the "ia" exec file we have saved on our drive, which usually permits mass uploading.

When attempting to upload zips one at a time, the new Item Editor stalls and displays the message "Network error." These zips are not large, they SHOULD be able to go into IA without problems, as they have in the past. Help!

The description=xyz tag works as long as you don't try to insert Newlines in it (Escaped Carrage-Return/Newline as either "%0A or %0D or %0D%0A"). As soon as any of the above characters are present, it does NOT let me to select or drag'n'drop a file anymore.

Have the option to “lock” files to disable downloads, viewing or otherwise use.

But the page hosting the file is still visible. This enables users to preserve copyrighted material by uploading them to the site that do no damage to copyright holders, and once it becomes public domain, a user finds the page hosting it request the material to be unlocked.

I am using Windows 10, laptop, Firefox, although I'll soon switch back to Chrome because of problems with Firefox. I better be able to keep uploading to a site that puts users over Hollywood. Otherwise, what will I do? Hand out blank DVDs of my work?

Dear all,

A quick question:

Are you still actively working on the uploader?

I have one concrete request:

Would it be possible for the uploader to automatically derive the page URL from the page title?

This doesn't work at the moment.

Please see the attached screenshot for the current (weird) way of setting the page URL automatically.

Thankfully,

~Robert

Five years later, I found no "how-to upload" in or near the MS DOS section of the excessively long FAQ:

https://archive.org/about/faqs.php#MS-DOS_Emulation

Therefore I asked a search engine and got a vintage 2006 step-by-step guide for audio uploads and this vintage 2013 beta test without further documentation:

https://archive.org/upload/
https://archive.org/post/61285/new-upload-procedure-step-by-step-guide

Things I'd like to know before trying it: Can I modify an uploaded file later, e.g., add a DosBox screenshot? Should I use the original ZIP archive with sources + binary, or split it into the binary (for the software archive DosBox emulator) + C sources (for enthusiasts)?

Bug FOUND: had to replace the image blocker (turned on and off as needed to stop bandwidth loss on repeated image reloads on other sites)-and "EasyImageBlocker" turned out to be incompatable with this website's uploader code even when set to allow images! Replaced it with "ImageBlockX" which does not interfere with this site's function when set to allow images to load and is easier to use as well.

All other extensions were simply "WebExtension" FF57 compatable versions of what I had used before, though many were new code. None of them created problems here, they were tested one at a time. Not going to enumerate them as I don't want to assist attackers

I like the Beta uploader and prefer the metadata format, but I have gotten a lot of 500 errors which have caused a lot of wasted time, and I have not been able to determine what the problem is. I've checked the forums a while back but did not find any answers. It doesn't happen every time but often enough that I hesitate to use it.

as several others have mentioned it before, the ability to resume an upload after the connection has been broken is crucial (in my opinion).

Otherwise the uploader works fine enough.

This uploader worked well for me, a non-Unix non-programmer on a Macbook Pro running El Capitan. I have 3 issues:
1) I agree it's cumbersome to have to re-enter metadata for each entry in a series.
2) If I make a typo, I don't see any way to correct it once the file's uploaded, except to add a review. My workaround was to upload one file a second time, with corrected info.
3) I was uploading 78s. I'd prefer the files to be both in the 78rpm collection, & the Community Audio collection. Is it either/or? If so, they should stay in Community Audio.

Here's a link to the uploads:
https://archive.org/search.php?query=pepi%20littman
Thanks!

Hi, I thought you might be interested in an exchange about the archive.org 78 collection from this Jewish Music listserv. If you'd like to respond directly to clear up misunderstandings you can sign up at
http://lists.jmwc.org/listinfo.cgi/jewish-music-jmwc.org

Meanwhile here's what I read today about the archive.org collection:

"From:XXXX
to jewish-music
This looks kind of exciting, although some of the metadata looks a bit funky. I can find 12 Yiddish records. If I add "hebrew" to the filter, there is a bit more. But, since 99.9% of what has been digitized is labeled "English", no idea how much of Jewish interest is actually there. Also, no idea if George Blood, the person behind this project, is working with Henry Sapoznik, who I think is doing something similar, but focused on Jewish 78s, at UWisc/Madison:

https://archive.org/details/georgeblood"

I replied:
"From: MJeanette Lewicki

9:21 AM (35 minutes ago)

to World
This summer I uploaded some Pepi Littman audio files to the Internet Archive, & after a week or so got an email request for permission to add them to the 78 collection. I agreed.

You can find them by searching archive.org with the search term "Pepi Littman" or "Pepi Litman" (I added both terms when I uploaded).

https://archive.org/search.php?query=pepi%20litman

The search term "Yiddish" yields almost 2000 audio files from archive.org which can be filtered by artist name & other preset filters:

https://archive.org/search.php?query=yiddish∧[]=mediatype%3A%22audio%22

I got 20 results for "Yiddish" from the George Blood collection. I conclude that these are a few 78s uploaded by one user to the wider collection.
https://archive.org/details/georgeblood

When I uploaded I added my own metadata. I was not given an option to upload directly to the 78 collection. Also, files had to be uploaded one at a time. I would add a few hundred more if I could figure out how to do it in bulk!"

i have about 100 hours of yiddish songs to upload. they are not 78s; they are digitial files made from reel-to-reel recordings circa 1948. each file is about 1 hour in real time. i have them as mp3s & as .wav files.

2) about metadata: my own metadata has been corrected, thanks very much for that. was i right in saying on the listserv that George Blood is not a project manager but probably just another user?

The HTML5 Uploader looks nicer and works better. It's more stable, and less prone to errors -- at least for me, using Firefox on Linux.

It'd be nice if managing files *after* they are uploaded were a little easier. Moving, renaming, or deleting files one at a time can be a pretty cumbersome when updating a relatively large collection.

It works well enough, if very slowly.
However, it's useless of uploading in bulk. Case example: I have about 100 magazines to upload, but in the current system I have to upload each one individually, then write the metadata, then repeat the process for the next 99 issues. Not something I have the time or in inclination to do. An option to address this would be very useful.

The uploader doesn't work by default in Tor Browser, because of its restriction of third-party cookies. In order to use the uploader, you have to click Torbutton (the onion icon in the toolbar), select "Privacy and Security Settings...", and then uncheck the box labeled "Restrict third party cookies and other tracking data".

If you leave the box checked, you get an infinite loop of "There is a network problem, [Resume Uploading], 403 Forbidden (details)" dialogs. Concretely, the 403 error comes from the XHR PUT to https://s3.us.archive.org/ (the console logs "onload received error status").

I tried this out and uploaded my files. It then went to a screen saying "please wait while your page is being created - there are 660 tasks queued to run before yours." And that was it. It never progressed further.

Uploaders do not want to wait while 660 tasks are progressed! We want to go to the metadata screen and tweak things.

I don't even know if my upload worked...

yes it succeeded, https://archive.org/details/chrysostom-devil-bryson-2014. fwiw you can't edit the item if the item hasn't been created. 660 items can run in less than one minute. did you wait to see if the progress bar ever finished? if it did not how long did you wait?

Thanks for the reply.

Not sure how long I waited. Probably about quarter of an hour. You see, I went off and had a bath and when I came back it was still sat there with the same "please wait".

Of course the browser times out after a while, I know. But still...

I found the item by searching for it. Just suggesting that the flow here is not right.

Hi,

I am just testing the new uploader out right now. Is there a way to batch upload/queue up multiple files to upload to multiple identifiers?

For example, i have to distinct video files, I want the first one to go to https://archive.org/details/file1 and the second one to go to https://archive.org/details/file2. I don't want to open multiple instances of archive.org/create and start them at the same time because it will slow everything down and I just want the files to upload one at a time.

It looks like I can add multiple files, with the new uploader but they would all go to one identifier, like https://archive.org/details/file1

Batch uploads saves a bit of time for me in case an upload task completes overnight, then the next job would get started immediately instead of having me to initiate it in the morning.

Thank you as always for the wonderful work you all do.

The new uploader is a mess. I need the triple time to upload. (I use Firefox 45)
* The old uploader started the upload during I filled in the metadata. Now I have to wait until every step is done before the uploads starts. During this time I can do nothing.
* The old uploader could be used by keys. Now every thing is to be clicked, so, its typing, clicking, typing and so on. A lot of unnecessary clicks by the way. I can not even use the Tab to enter the next field – very hard to understand.
* The old uploader provides autocompleting. To upload a series of periodicals I need just to type the first letter and I got the whole text. Now I have to type everything from the scratch or have a lot of unneccesary copy-paste-action.

Please re-install the old uploader – I do not want to waste my time with handling a handicuped program.

not sure i follow. after you click LMA button it should take you to https://archive.org/create.php?lma=1

if you click the "Classic Uploader" button there a finder window should open where you should select the files you want to upload and then click "Open". Your files will then upload and you can see the progress bar.

First, let me start by saying that I really have enjoyed being an Archive user and I am really grateful for all the help I have received from you. But here on the matter I have started to have really bad experiences with the Beta uploader. Most of the files I have been uploading are in PDF format. Ever since the new uploader started I have not been able to upload correctly my PDF files. Many times already the derivative process gets frustrated to no avail when I try to read online. I have posted my concern and I have been helped kindly but I am hesitant to ask for help every time I want to upload an item. I have been uploading on Safari and lately on the Chrome web-browsers but the problem persist even with files that I have uploaded before; (please note: my PDF files are not corrupt, I can't imagine why they could)
but thank you really; many thanks on the great endeavor that you continue to do on Archive.org I hope this problem gets fixed eventually.
Your friend, Juan Luis

I hate that this publishes the item as soon as it uploads. The ftp option let me publish whenever I wanted (within 3 days), which I need in order to synchronize things with my website. This is inconvenient since I can't even estimate how long the upload is going to take. A simple checkbox for requiring confirmation before publishing would be nice.

I was looking at the labels other libraries are using that are not part of the default set. 'Book contributor' and 'Call number' seemed to be common. Do I have to add %20 for all spaces in the default and added entries?

the metadata keys for those two fields are:

spaces, rather than %20, are fine in the values. it's best to avoid commas or any special characters in the values if possible as some databases do not like them.

In between the connection might go also. But this upload form is refreshing (that is, it restarts the uploading from beginning) when the internet connection is reset. Most of the time this is happening after almost 50% of the upload process is over.

Is there is a way to add a feature for pause the uploading and restart the uploading from the place where it stopped when these type of disturbance occur? Many download/upload clients support that type of feature. Why can't Archive.org also do some thing similar?

Where do I restrict others from selling the documents I post here? That option appears to be gone.

I don't need to spend $200 on an old document, decide to share it by posting it here, only to have print-on-demand types make money from my document. Again, where did that restriction go?

Hi Brian,

When you upload files, you can choose a license for the them during the upload process. Click on the License field and then choose the appropriate options, like "Prohibit Commercial Use."

See https://archive.org/download/uploader-license/uploader-license.png for a screen shot of this.

Thanks,

This beta uploader is not user-friendly for visually impaired people using the JAWS screen reader. It's confusing having to click on each field you want to type in, rather than having the fields come up with boxes all ready to edit as in the old uploader.
I suggest you have a new uploader with the browse button on top, then all the
archive.org/editxml
fields right below it (in the easy edit format). I believe this would be a better solution for those of us who are visually impaired, and it would be an improvement over the old uploader as well, as a person could easily add files and add all the metadata at the same time. Currently, I have to go through three processes to upload one patent. I have to (1) create the identifier, (2) add the files, and (3) edit the XML so the title is different from the identifier. This new uploader is unfriendly enough that I'll need to stick with the old method until a more accessible version of the uploader comes along.
Thanks for listening.

I agree with the previous post. This is not accessible. You should be able to tab from one field to the next.

I also miss how the page remembers what I typed last. Especially for things like tags and author.

I do like the layout. It's easier to find the fields to edit. Keep up the good work!

hm, i'm still having this problem: with the new uploader, i select multiple files (flacs in this case) and begin, but when it reaches the end of the first file (in the latest instance, after 26MB) it announces a network error with the option to resume uploading. if i resume it starts from the beginning, uploads 26MB (or whatever the size of the first file is), and then errors again, endless loop. i would just use the classic uploader, but i'm nervous about not being able to specify which collection my item goes in, as it started putting my soundfiles under texts for some reason, and most recently put one in 'ourmedia':

https://archive.org/details/murmer-murmer

i've already emailed to ask if this item can be moved to community audio, or if not, if it can just be deleted so i can start again.

I use Linux Mint with Firefox and the beta uploader worked perfectly. Additionally I noticed a Unix warning about uploading and was immediately redirected to a page to manually upload. Instead of the redirection perhaps a redirection to the beta uploader by default would be better as I had to browse back from the manual entry page following the Unix upload error and quickly click on the beta uploader to use it. All in all a great job!

First, my video went into Community Video when more appropriately, it is a public domain feature film.

The file is 2.7 gigs and took all night to upload. The page is there, but the video plays for 1 second.

The search feature doesn't find the page after many tries using different keywords. Recent upload activity finds zero uploads.

Did my upload work or not? How can I move the file to a more appropriate place. If I can't find it, knowing exactly what to look for, how can anybody else?

This may not be a "New Beta Uploader" question, but something is definitely wrong.

Thanks.

Forum: forums Subject: Re: New Beta Uploader

For those of us who are not especially technically proficient with your system, I would suggest a revised and simplified format--as follows:

1. Users should be able to create a general page title and then have an option (a check box?) which would permit the user to indicate that they want to upload multiple files under that ONE page title.

Example:
(a) User creates a page captioned "FBI File Collection by..." (Enter User Name here) and then
(b) User has check box option to indicate "add files to this page".
(c) If the box is checked, then the user can select as many files as desired (up to max size limit) which will be added to that "FBI File Collection..." page. Each file should be able to be given a unique name (i.e. the specific subject of that file which is being added under the generic "FBI File Collection" title page.
(d) If the box is NOT checked, then the user creates a new title page for each uploaded file.
EXAMPLE: Suppose a user wants to create a general title page such as "FBI Files on Left-Wing Individuals and Organizations". With the check box option, the user could then add as many files as desired--which fall under that general subject---but each file uploaded to that title page would specify the name of the person or group.

2. There appears to be some kind of MAJOR flaw in the "choose files to upload" feature.

I selected 15 pdf files saved on my PC--each one of which was 20MB or less. I then clicked "upload".

After waiting (literally) 5 hours (!!!) -- I still was getting a message stating that your system was uploading my files.

So I then logged out of the Archive altogether and, immediately went back in to check how many of my 15 files had finished uploading.

To my astonishment, ALL 15 files had been uploaded---even though there was no "finished" message during the upload process nor was there any "progress" status shown -- which would tell a user how many files were still being uploaded.

By contrast, when I uploaded one file at a time, I could see the actual progress of the upload, i.e. how much of the file size had been completed and approx how much time was left to finish uploading the file.

That same progress summary (for one file at a time) should apply to multiple files being uploaded . Otherwise, users like me might wait 5 hours (!!!) for something which, for all I know, was actually finished uploading in one hour or less (!!!) [Incidentally, my PC upload speed is 6.5MB; my download speed is 50MB]

Hi,

We were doing a bunch of electrical upgrades at one of our data centers today - most things weren't affected, but it's possible that your uploads were failing due to the maintenance. Please try it again tomorrow, if you don't mind. Let us know if you're still seeing the problem.

Thanks,
Alexis

It seems it didn't start uploading while I was editing the meta data? Compared to the old one that seems that's a big loss.

that is because it does not upload until you click the upload button. gives you a chance to add or delete files before creating your item. the old one did not allow that.

I happen to agree with you, for what it's worth -- I'd love it if the uploading was happening in the background while you're sorting out your information (like facebook does for video and picture uploading, etc.) and like we did with the prior uploader [ disclaimer: I wrote our prior uploader ;-0 ]

Maybe we can get "upload while metadata-ing" added as a feature in the future!

Hi Alexis One point noted uploading/comments/info, work OK, when I receive the Last dialog box it tells me how many other files it has to encode before the one up loaded. The Dialog box does not change nor goes away, just hangs longest test has been one hour.

I find if I check for the uploaded file using another machine it is already in place and functional.
Uploading transport Win & IE 11. Check Mac Pro / Safari.

Any reason why the uploader should stall at this point?

Love the new beta uploader except it doesn't address the main shortcoming of the classic uploader: that you still have to repeatedly specify collection, license, language etc. It makes the upload process painful as you have to constantly reenter these defaults. So populating a single collection requires far to many clicks over and over. And if a mistake is made for instance, forgetting to put in your collection, then your upload is effectively "lost" in community space etc. Is there any way to store a cookie or at least retain a session record of the last upload to make this so much smoother?

Hello! My name is Peter Grenader. I want to talk to you about usage rights of the Terence McKenna recordings you have uploaded. I am speaking on behalf of an extremely popular band who would like to include a soundbite on their new album. Because of the nature of copyright regulations, we need ot be careful about this. respond here or write me at petergrenader at gmail. thank you so much.

Please see these instructions on how to preset collection and other metadata with the new uploader:

These features were added to help populate entire collections.

Worked very smoothly, easily and well in uploading the files ("The 911 Letters").

However, it automatically classified them as "text" in the summary page, whereas actually they are mp3 audio files. Not sure if this matters - I don't recall being asked about the media type, and I can't change the metadata to anything but "text" now...

Any advice?

Sorry - I have no idea how to make metadata work so I can upload. the instructions (http://blog.archive.org/2013/02/08/presetting-metadata-with-the-new-beta-uploader/) are in tech jargon that is incomprehensible to me. what am i supposed to fill in in the two windows under "more options". Am I the only stupid one here?

I had trouble last week getting the upload to accept my file at all; no clue why, tried restarting a few times and gave up. Today it worked with no problems. Using Chrome, on the same PC, both times.

The license selection is better, but I would like to suggest one improvement. I wanted "attribution", but permitting everything else. The menu does not make it clear what does or does not require attribution.

(and I also miss the background-uploading, as previously noted here)

A few weeks ago I replied that I was unable to upload my podcast episode using the new beta loader, and had to use the old uploader. I wanted to let you know that I successfully uploaded my latest podcast episode using the new uploader, with no problems or issues, the first time I tried.

Hello!

Today I tried the new uploader with a new release for my netlabel.
The upload of 92MB took 4 hours (and there's nothing wrong with my upload speed)!

Accidentally, I forgot to add the release to the Netlabels collection and now it seems to be impossible for me to fix it. Is there still a way?

Kind regards and keep up the good work,
João

Howdy!

I quite liked the fact that the older uploader started uploading immediately and you didn't have to wait to fill in all the fields.

Also while the file is uploading, there is no "stop" or "pause" button.

And given that there were a bunch of difficulties today, if you can keep the amount of data uploaded in KB instead of MB, it will make sitting in front of a fairly static page more entertaining.

Some nice improvements.

I do miss being able to quickly enter the item data by tabbing to the next field. Tabbing seems to send my focus anywhere but where I need it. It's a simple thing, but if someone has time to fix it, I'd be grateful. Also, it used to save me time that it would start uploading the file before I started entering the item data (description, license, author, etc.).

Thanks for the good work.

there will be more features in the v2 release. Tabbing will be one of them.

One benefit with the new uploader is to allow you to add and remove files after adding metadata. And, it is not unusual for folks to choose an incorrect file and want to remove it or wish to add one they missed.

Thanks for the feedback.

why don`t the site makes an uploader tool like other sites , i think it will be a great idea and suitable for all uploaders to have the chance for resuming and stopping or (pause) the upload , it`s better than uploading using browsers which causes crashes for upload most of the time .. I hope to solve that soon and i hope you will find better ways for making uploading much easier .. thanks alot for that Great and Best uploading in the world Without exaggeration >> :D

Best Wishes and Good Luck :D
