The classification work [5], [9] left unsettled only those anomalous isoparametric hypersurfaces with four principal curvatures and multiplicity pair $\{4,5\},\{6,9\}$ or $\{7,8\}$ in the sphere. By systematically exploring the ideal theory in commutative algebra in conjunction with the geometry of isoparametric hypersurfaces, we show that an isoparametric hypersurface with four principal curvatures and multiplicities $\{4,5\}$ in $S^{19}$ is homogeneous, and, moreover, an isoparametric...

The superconducting (SC) state of iron-based compounds in both tetragonal and orthorhombic phases is studied on the basis of an effective Hamiltonian composed of the kinetic energy including the five Fe 3d-orbitals, the orthorhombic crystalline electric field (CEF) energy, and the two-orbital Kugel'-Khomski\u{i}-type superexchange interaction. Our basic assumption is that the antiferromagnetic (AF) state in the parent compounds can be described by the $d_{xz}$ and $d_{yz}$ orbitals, and that...

We study a square plaquette of four optical microtraps containing ultracold $^{87}$Rb atoms in F=1 hyperfine state. In a presence of external resonant magnetic field the dipolar interactions couple initial $m_F=1$ component to other Zeeman sublevels. This process is a generalization of the Einstein-de Haas effect to the case when the external potential has only $C_4$ point-symmetry. We observe that vortex structures appear in the initially empty $m_F=0$ state. Topological properties of this...

The subgroup pattern of a finite groups $G$ is the table of marks of $G$ together with a list of representatives of the conjugacy classes of subgroups of $G$. In this article we present an algorithm for the computation of the subgroup pattern of a cyclic extension of $G$ from the subgroup pattern of $G$. Repeated application of this algorithm yields an algorithm for the computation of the table of marks of a solvable group $G$, along a composition series of $G$.

The possibility to draw links between the isospin properties of nuclei and the structure of compact stars is a stimulating perspective. In order to pursue this objective on a sound basis, the correlations from which such links can be deduced have to be carefully checked against model dependence. Using a variety of nuclear effective models and a microscopic approach, we study the relation between the predictions of a given model and those of a Taylor density development of the corresponding...

We study the detectability of the lightest CP-odd Higgs boson of the NMSSM, $a_1$, at the LHC through its production in association with a bottom-quark pair followed by the $a_1\to b\bar b$ decay. It is shown that, for large $\tan\beta$ and very high luminosity of the LHC, there exist regions of the NMSSM parameter space that can be exploited to detect the $a_1$ through this channel. This signature is a characteristic feature of the NMSSM in comparison to the MSSM, as $a_1$ masses involved are...

We calculate electromagnetic neutral pion production off three-nucleon bound states (3H, 3He) at threshold to leading one-loop order in the framework of chiral nuclear effective field theory. In addition, we analyze the dependence of the nuclear S-wave amplitude E_{0+} on the elementary neutron amplitude E_{0+}^{pi0 n} which in the case of 3He provides a stringent test of the prediction based on chiral perturbation theory. Uncertainties from higher order corrections are estimated.

This article is from BMC Clinical Pharmacology , volume 11 . Abstract Background: Risk of morbidity and mortality in patients with severe heart failure (HF) is reduced by blockade of aldosterone receptors with spironolactone. However, benefits of spironolactone are potentially limited by treatment compliance and adverse events profile. The aim of this study was to estimate use of spironolactone by patients with HF, incidence of key adverse events, and patient compliance. Methods: This study was...

The last nine years of persistent conflict in the Middle East and South Asia has demonstrated the need to look at the global environment through a different lens. What was a bi-polar world before the fall of the Berlin War, with a focus on conventional threats and operations, is now an asymmetrical world shaped by a confluence of crime, migration, and extremism, in which irregular warfare and nonstate actors greatly influence and threaten U.S. national security. By identifying the major trends...

This article is from ZooKeys . Abstract AbstractCalleida desenderi Casale, sp. n., is described from Ecuador, Napo Province, surroundings of San Rafael. The new taxon is mostly characterized by the head and appendages rufous, the disc of elytra with marked metallic green reflection, the median lobe of aedeagus ring-like, and the endophallus with a long, twisted flagellum. A key for identification of the closer Neotropical species described so far is also provided.

The idea that teaching practices could be improved through better data systems has captured the imagination of policy makers, researchers and foundations. However, the concept of data use itself is so ill-defined as to suggest that it is more of a panacea than a coherent reform proposal. This paper examines the concept with an eye toward what we would need to know about teacher data use to ensure that it would actually yield productive improvements in teaching and would not turn out to be an...

This article is from BMC Public Health , volume 11 . Abstract Background: During the 2009 H1N1 influenza epidemic, policy makers debated over whether, when, and how long to close schools. While closing schools could have reduced influenza transmission thereby preventing cases, deaths, and health care costs, it may also have incurred substantial costs from increased childcare needs and lost productivity by teachers and other school employees. Methods: A combination of agent-based and Monte Carlo...

Cascading multiple VIPA etalons in the cross-axis configuration allowed us to achieve a high extinction ratio of up to 80 dB with sub-GHz resolution. Using a three-stage VIPA, we obtained the Brillouin spectra from Intralipid solutions at concentrations up to 10%.

The system has a number of physical realizations including dipole excitons, atoms with large dipolar moment, polar molecules, Rydberg atoms in inhomogenious electric field. In dimensionless units the system is described by two control parameters, namely...

We study two-bodies gravitational problem where the mass of one of the bodies varies and suffers a damping-antidamping effect due to star wind during its motion. A constant of motion, a Lagrangian and a Hamiltonian are given for the radial motion of the system, and the period of the body is studied using the constant of motion of the system. An application to the comet motion is given, using the comet Halley as an example.

This article is from Acta Crystallographica Section E: Structure Reports Online , volume 67 . Abstract The title compound (AHTN-OH), C17H26O, was prepared in order to provide standard materials for the qualitative and quantitative analysis of environmental pollutants. The molecule possesses a chiral C atom, although the structure determination was performed on racemic material, expressed in the structure as disordered chiral sites. The asymmetric unit consists of four AHTN-OH molecules...

In this paper we present the parameterization of a new interionic potential for stoichiometric, reduced and doped CeO$_2$. We use a dipole-polarizable potential (DIPPIM) and optimize its parameters by fitting them to a series of DFT calculations. The resulting potential was tested by calculating a series of fundamental properties for CeO$_2$ and by comparing them to experimental values. The agreement for all the calculated properties (thermal and chemical expansion coefficients, lattice...

For a dynamical system we will construct various invariant sets starting from its conserved quantities. We will give conditions under which certain solutions of a nonlinear system are also solutions for a simpler dynamical system, for example when they are solutions for a linear dynamical system. We will apply these results to the example of Toda lattice.
