Aaron Eleazer Fussell Sr. was born on July 5, 1923, in the town of Rose Hill in Duplin County, N.C., to Cyrus Thomas and Myra Cavenaugh Fussell. Aaron Fussell grew up in Rose Hill where his father was a farmer, and Aaron graduated from Rose Hill High School in 1940.
