Supersonic flow around blunt body of revolution with generatrix discontinuity

Topics: BLUNT BODIES, BODIES OF REVOLUTION, DISCONTINUITY, SUPERSONIC FLOW, SYMMETRY, BLUNT BODY,...

This thesis describes a CAD-compatible circuit model for an infinitesimally thin inductive strip centered in homogeneous finline for 0.1 less than or equal to w over b less than or equal to 1.0. The model is shown to predict scattering data which agrees with data computed using the spectral domain method. Results were generated for strips of length T greater than or equal to 10 mils in X-band. By applying the scaling principle, the model is valid for any waveguide band over the normal frequency...

We have established a test fixture and procedure to extract dielectric complex permittivity for biotechnology materials, especially those used in medical (human tissue and liquid 900MHz), environmental domains (i. e., raffia palm trees, spring water) and food (semolina and polenta) in microwave domains. Two circular coaxial transmission-lines have been designed, manufactured and presented in this paper to reach main goals. The technique is based on the use of the transmission-line propagation...

The objective of this and the two forthcoming articles is to describe the fundamental discontinuities of human existence. The reason for starting with entrepreneurship is twofold. The entrepreneurial sciences represent a tradition the subject matter of which is change, and the relation between the singular and the super singular constitutes a problem which has frustrated the cognition of human activity. The analysis of some classic theories of entrepreneurship shows that - given a sufficient...

Scanator provides the basis for this work. Scanator is a modern, ecological psychophysics encompassing a cohesive set of theories and methods for the study of mental functions. Within the framework of Scanator we can study competence, i.e. the capacity for making sense in complex situations. Scanator does not, however, include a functional model to explain how various forms of sense making are co-operatively co-ordinated. This thesis develops such a model, which forms a theoretical expression...

This is the last article in a series of three, the objective of which is to describe the fundamental discontinuities of human existence. In the first article: The fundamental concepts of human existence and the relation between the singular and the super-singular, it is shown, among other things, that a number of classic theories have three fundamental concepts of development in common: canalization that encompasses transference of something from one another, correlation that encompasses...

This thesis introduces the effect of the loss to the homogeneous finline strip model. The expressions for the Quality Factors associated with the ohmic losses for inductive strips in homogeneous finline are derived and included in the CAD compatible circuit model in terms of the finite Q inductances. It is shown that the lossy circuit models more accurately predict the experimental response of an X band finline filter.

A study of the shielded coplanar line (SCPL) is presented. The main goal of this theses is to develop an equivalent circuit model for a typical discontinuity in the SCPL. The formulation is based on Galerkin's method, using Green's function applied in the Fourier transform domain. The impedance (Z sub 0) has been calculated by using a variational method. The propagation constant (betaomega) and effective dielectric constant of the SCPL have been calculated by using a method of moments. The...

Post-localization damage-like constitutive models suitable for capturing deformation in geomaterials. Features a cohesive zone model which tracks opening and sliding degrees of freedom on crack surface as well as plastic-like friction model. Computational robustness of simulations is enhanced with an implicit-explicit integration scheme. Examples show the efficacy of model in being able to realistically capture failure in boundary value problems with complex geometries.

The difficulty of characterizing and observing valid software behavior during testing can be very difficult in flight systems. To address this issue, we evaluated several approaches to increasing test observability on the Shuttle Abort Flight Management (SAFM) system. To increase test observability, we added probes into the running system to evaluate the internal state and analyze test data. To minimize the impact of the instrumentation and reduce manual effort, we used Aspect-Oriented...

THE VT18 ALLOY WAS INVESTIGATED DURING HEAT TREATMENT, AND IT WAS SHOWN THAT AT TEMPERATURES BELOW 930 DEG, THE ALPHA SUB 2-PHASE AND SOME OF THE BETA-PHASE ARE PRESENT, APART FROM THE ALPHA-MATRIX. DURING AGING, THE CHANGES ARE DETERMINED BY THE FORMATION OF THE ORDERED ALPHA SUB 2-PHASE. AFTER LONGER EXPOSURE, THE BETA-PHASE DECOMPOSES. THE INSTABILITY OF VT18, AT WORKING TEMPERATURES, IS DUE TO THE ORDERING OF THE ALPHA-SOLID SOLUTION AND DECOMPOSITION OF THE BETA-PHASE.

This paper studies alternate ways to model density discontinuity in split-step Fourier parabolic equation models. The Monterey-Miami Parabolic Equation model is used to implement an alternative to the effective index term in the smoothing function and a split-step Fourier/Finite Difference hybrid technique. The model is shown to converge to a stable solution that is slightly lower than the benchmark solution. A range step size of approximately one wavelength is shown to provide the closest...

Effects of steep island terrain on typhoon motion and structure changes are studied by both observational analyses and numerical simulations. The analyses involve calculation of center position deviations from a second- order polynomial curve fitted to the best tracks, and an empirical orthogonal function analysis to determine the terrain-induced surface structures. The simulations use a limited-area model, with a elliptical-shaped barrier and a 'spun-up vortex' to represent the typhoon, to...

If a constructibly countable ordinal alpha is a gap ordinal, then the order type of the set of index ordinals smaller than alpha is exactly alpha. The gap ordinals are the only points of discontinuity of a certain ordinal-valued function. The notion of gap minimality for well ordered systems of notations is defined, and the existence of gap-minimal systems of notations of arbitrarily large constructibly countable length is established.

Using an optically thick inner disk and an extended, optically thin outer disk as described in Mosqueira and Estrada, we compute the torque as a function of position in the subnebula, and show that although the torque exerted on the satellite is generally negative, which leads to inward migration as expected, there are regions of the disk where the torque is positive. For our model these regions of positive torque correspond roughly to the locations of Callisto and Iapetus. Though the outer...

The notion is introduced of subcell distribution, which is based on the observation that unlike point values, cell-averages of a discontinuous piecewise-smooth function contain information about the exact location of the discontinuity within the cell. Using this observation an essentially non-oscillatory (ENO) reconstruction technique is designed which is exact for cell averages of discontinuous piecewise-polynomial functions of the appropriate degree. Later on this new reconstruction technique...

SINCE THE IGNITION OF CARBON TAKES PLACE IN A DEGENERATE REGION, THE FLASH PHENOMENON OCCURS. THE COMPUTATIONS ARE CARRIED OUT UNTIL DEGENERACY IS REMOVED AND NUCLEAR BURNING BECOMES STABLE. DURING THIS PHASE THE HELIUM BURNING SHELL BECOMES LESS AND LESS IMPORTANT AS THE HYDROGEN IS AGAIN IGNITED AT THE INTERFACE BETWEEN THE OUTER HYDROGEN-RICH ENVELOPE AND THE HELIUM CORE.
