Hardness results for maximum agreement problems have close connections to hardness results for proper learning in computational learning theory. In this paper we prove two hardness results for the problem of finding a low degree polynomial threshold function (PTF) which has the maximum possible agreement with a given set of labeled examples in Rn { 1, 1}.

It is known that the finite dimensional extensions of a symmetric operator define extremal spectral functions of the operator. Finite dimensional extensions exist, however, only for symmetric operators with equal deficiency indices. In this report it is shown that self adjoint extensions defined by the addition of maximal symmetric operators determine extremal spectral functions for a symmetric operator with unequal deficiency indices.

Continuous growth methodology for silicon solar cell ribbons deals with capillary effects, die effects, thermal effects and crystal shape effects. Emphasis centers on the shape of the meniscus at the ribbon edge as a factor contributing to ribbon quality with respect to defect densities. Structural and electrical characteristics of edge defined, film-fed grown silicon ribbons are elaborated. Ribbon crystal solar cells produce AMO efficiencies of 6 to 10%.
