This work aimed at evaluating the indoor concentrations of formaldehyde in twenty five new apartments in the city of Drama, Northern Greece. By means of a formaldehyde meter, two series of measurements were made in September 2009 and September 2010. Early morning measurements were made in the living rooms, bedrooms, kitchen rooms and child rooms. Initial measurements showed that average concentrations of formaldehyde exceeded by far the limit of 0.1 ppm set in most of the European countries...

The Nickel (II) Bakelite composite has been synthesized using phenol formaldehyde by chemical precipitation method. To obtain the nickel nanoparticles synthesized phenol formaldehyde decomposed at 800 0 C. The composite so had attributes of both metal and polymer and their properties depend on proportion and compatibility of various components of composite. The chemical composition and crystallographic structure of Ni nanoparticle is confirmed by XRD measurement. The XRD analysis reveals the...

An indoor air quality model (IIAQ-CC) was developed to assess climate change (CC) influences on indoor level of volatile or semi-volatile organic compounds. With IIAQ-CC, the CC influences is predicted in integrated manners by factors including fate/transport properties of pollutants, building characteristics, occupant behaviors, indoor emission sources, and outdoor air quality. IIAQ-CC was evaluated for the temperature sensitivity of indoor formaldehyde (FA) concentration at outdoor...

Abstract — Occupational exposure to formaldehyde (FA) has been related to adverse outcomes. However, a short period of exposure has never been assessed in terms of evaluating DNA. This study conducted on 39 medical students exposed to FA in a university laboratory of human anatomy and aimed to analyze the relationship between FA exposure and DNA damage. The buccal micronucleus cytome assay (BMCyt) was used to evaluate the students at four time points: before FA exposure, after four months of...

An increase in air temperature related to climate change results in the retreat of glaciers, the degradation of permafrost, and the expansion of glacier-free areas in the polar regions. All these processes lead to changes in the Arctic landscape. They influence the hydrochemistry of streams and rivers fed by glaciers and thawing permafrost. In this study, we examine eighty two water samples from two non-glaciated catchments with snow-permafrost regime: the Tyvjobekken Creek and the Reindeer...

The second-order Moller-Plesset ab initio electronic structure method is used to compute points for the anharmonic mode-coupled potential energy surface of N-methylacetamide (NMA) in the trans(sub ct) configuration, including all degrees of freedom. The vibrational states and the spectroscopy are directly computed from this potential surface using the Correlation Corrected Vibrational Self-Consistent Field (CC-VSCF) method. The results are compared with CC-VSCF calculations using both the...

Study of the effect of atmospheric relative humidity (RH) on the adsorption of paraformaldehyde-generated formaldehyde gas on various surfaces and the effect of the adsorbed formaldehyde on the death rate of bacterial spores showed that increasing the RH caused a corresponding increase of formaldehyde levels on all surfaces. The amount peaked at 83% RH. The levels obtained at 100% RH were slightly below those at 83% RH. Cotton cloth had a much greater affinity for the gas at all RH than either...

A control strategy for real-time collision avoidance of a mobile robot in an environment containing moving obstacles is proposed. A dynamic model of the robot, the constraints and assumptions are presented. Objects, including the robot, are modelled as convex polyhedra. Collision avoidance is guaranteed if the minimum distance between the robot and the objects is nonzero. A nominal trajectory is assumed to be known from off-line planning. The main idea is to change the velocity along the...

Device makes use of microwave spectral absorption in low-Q resonant Stark cell, and indications are that ultimate sensitivity of instrument is within 100 parts per billion of formaldehyde. Microwave source is very small and requires only six-volt dc bias for operation. Coarse tuning is accomplished mechanically and fine tuning by adjusting dc-bias voltage.
