This was a soft-cover spiral-bound booklet of eighty (80) pages, therefore have to scan it in three parts as there are dried mildew stamps, pen and pencil marks, etc., nothing in changed in the pictures nor the artwork. It has been restored as it would have appeared just the first time it was acquired. It was also dog-eared as it was used for reference repeatedly throughout it's life!

Indigo-blue Melton-wool embroidered white cotton or silk specialty marks. These are photographs of actual insignia hand-embroidered by civilian tailors or by individual sailors on board their ship. A thin piece of linen stamped with the image of their specialty mark. These were all changed in 1885 to 1886 U.S. Navy Uniform Regulations when their specialty marks were placed under an American bald eagle and above chevrons point down!
