After burners are employed in an aero engine of a fighter aircrafts, to achieve maximum thrust during take-off, climb and during some special combat maneuvers. Since the fuel consumption is high during the afterburning operation it is employed only when necessary. The diffuser duct is the first component of the afterburner system, situated immediately next to the exit of the low-pressure turbine. The struts are the supporting structures, which connect the parts of diffuser duct. These struts...

I have quite weak shower pressure, I looked into various solutions, a shower pump which would require new pipes, an ungraded main pressure boiler, which would break the me. I found a similar item on Thingiverse but didn't like the design, so I designed this one. It is designed to fit a 16mm shower hose into the extension, the fat end receives the standard 25-23mm tapered shower end, and the skinny end fits into the same measurements bracket. I printed this at 0.2 with PLA, nothing fancy. With...

Various nozzles for low pressure watering (estimated at 0.5 - 1.0 bar). Hose connection is barbed and designed for 10 mm hose (inner diameter). The objective was to create a nozzle that is able to water my plants from 0.6 m above. * Wide coverage (0.36 m2). * Soft water droplets. * High waterflow. * Funtion properly with a low pressure (12vdc pump). Through testing i have learned and used the following: The nozzle is build out of 3 integrated nozzles with 3 features. These integrated nozzles...

Part of a hackaday.com to make a game controller for people with physical disabilities http://wp.me/pk3lN-pNO You can also contribute at www.thecontrollerproject.com This case uses a simple lever design to reduce the force necessary to push a 6mm momentary switch from 60 grams down to about 15grams of pressure. there are two versions here. One that snaps together and one that is more rugged that will need to be drilled. I use a piece of paperclip as a hinge on the more rugged one.

An on-line gas monitoring system was developed to replace the older systems used to monitor for cryogenic leaks on the Space Shuttles before launch. The system uses a mass spectrometer to monitor multiple locations in the process, which allows the system to monitor all gas constituents of interest in a nearly simultaneous manner. The system is fully redundant and meets all requirements for ground support equipment (GSE). This includes ruggedness to withstand launch on the Mobile Launcher...

Advanced rotorcraft configurations are being investigated with the objectives of identifying vehicles that are larger, quieter, and faster than current-generation rotorcraft. A large rotorcraft, carrying perhaps 150 passengers, could do much to alleviate airport capacity limitations, and a quiet rotorcraft is essential for community acceptance of the benefits of VTOL operations. A fast, long-range, long-endurance rotorcraft, notably the tilt-rotor configuration, will improve rotorcraft...

During its first five months of operations, the Langmuir Probe on the Floating Potential Probe (FPP) obtained data on ionospheric electron densities and temperatures in the ISS orbit. In this paper, the algorithms for data reduction are presented, and comparisons are made of FPP data with ground-based ionosonde and Incoherent Scattering Radar (ISR) results. Implications for ISS operations are detailed, and the need for a permanent FPP on ISS is examined.

The Gas-Grain Simulation Facility (GGSF) will provide a microgravity environment where undesirable environmental effects are reduced, and thus, experiments involving interactions between small particles and grains can be more suitably performed. Slated for flight aboard the Shuttle in 1992, the ESA glovebox will serve as a scientific and technological testbed for GGSF exobiology experiments as well as generating some basic scientific data. Initial glovebox experiments will test a method of...

The purpose of the work was a study of the process parameters of the organometallic vapor phase epitaxy technique and their relationship to the properties of gallium indium arsenide lattice matched to indium phosphide. The study was an extension of an earlier study at atmospheric to low pressure conditions and shows that the effects of parasitic reactions can be essentially eliminated by low pressures. The work has established ranges of operation (temperature and pressures) for high quality...

The primary objective of this investigation is to develop a method to solve for spacecraft attitude in the presence of potential incomplete antenna deployment. Most research on the use of the Global Positioning System (GPS) in attitude determination has assumed that the antenna baselines are known to less than 5 centimeters, or one quarter of the GPS signal wavelength. However, if the GPS antennas are mounted on a deployable fixture such as a solar panel, the actual antenna positions will not...

Auger electron spectroscopy was used to examine the initial stages of oxidation of a polycrystalline copper - 19.6 a/o-aluminum alloy. The growth of the 55-eV aluminum oxide peak and the decay of the 59-, 62-, and 937-eV copper peaks were examined as functions of temperature, exposure, and pressure. Pressures ranged from 1x10 to the minus 7th power to 0.0005 torr of O2. Temperatures ranged from room temperature to 700 C. A completely aluminum oxide surface layer was obtained in all cases....

An environmental fog simulation (EFS) attachment was developed to aid in the study of natural low-visibility visual cues and subsequently used to examine the realism effect upon the aircraft simulator visual scene. A review of the basic fog equations indicated that the two major factors must be accounted for in the simulation of low visibility-one due to atmospheric attenuation and one due to veiling luminance. These factors are compared systematically by: comparing actual measurements lo those...

A low-pressure-ratio centrifugal compressor was tested with four different diffuser configurations. One diffuser had airfoil vanes. Two were pipe diffusers. One pipe diffuser had 7.5 deg cone diffusing passages. The other had trumpet-shaped passages designed for linear static-pressure rise from throat to exit. The fourth configuration had flat vanes with elliptical leading edges similar to those of pipe diffusers. The side walls were contoured to produce a linear pressure rise. Peak compressor...

Tests of an experimental low pressure spark gap Blumlein switch are presented. Gas flows from a pulsed valve into the gap at a steady rate through holes in the cathode and results in a steady pressure of about 0.1 Torr. The pressure outside the gap over the Blumelin insulator is much lower. Trigger electrodes are mounted in the grounded cathode. Initially the current rises exponentially with time with rate constant proportional to gas density. Measurements of rise time, jitter and voltage...
