The Cylinder Archive [ www.cylinder.de ] release for July 2013: The French Comic Opera supplied a great repertoire for the classical Edison recordings. This one pre-dates the Grand Opera Series from 1906, was recorded in 1904 and released as an Edison Gold Moulded cylinder. Altough some quite audible surface noise, the recording remains overall crisp and clear. The cylinder is self-announced by Cécile Merguillier herself.

A very rare Dutch selection from Edison Blue Amberol cylinder #9662, performed by Napoleon Christiaan (Nap) de la Mar (1878-1930), a Dutch actor and director. To have recorded something like this in this within the USA at the time of around 1912 would have caused nothing short of a scandal. Isadora Duncan was an American dancer who scandalized America with her modern dance interpretations, dancing her "Dance of the Seven Veils" in a flesh colored bodysuit, which gave the audience the...

A very naughty song by Margarete Wiedeke (often abbreviated as Grete Wiedeke). Although not the most charming voice of that era, Wiedeke recorded a huge variety of songs on cylinders and discs and was one of the popular recording artists in Germany. This one comes from an Edison Wax Amberol cylinder #4M-15008, recorded in May of 1909 (Berlin, Germany).

The story about White records starts with Mr. White who was a former Edison employee. He took all the secrets of cylinder manufacturing and founded his own label "White Record" under the name of the General Phonograph Company. This adventure did last only for a short time - until Edison shut him down by lawsuits. Infact it bears a definite resemblance to the Edison Gold Moulded cylinders... This title origins from White Record #193, probably around 1907.
