R&D Report 1975-35 : Acoustic scaling: The design of a large music studio for Manchester. Final report. H.D. Harwood, K.E. Randall, K.F.L. Lansdowne This report gives the results of further modifications to the design of the large music studio for Manchester and assesses their performances subjectively and objectively. Final recommendations for the design are given and these should not only result in a better design than the original, but in a lower cost.

This paper explored four models in determining the impact of four agricultural sub-sectors of on the Nigerian GDP. The data is on the contribution of four different sub-sectors of agriculture on Nigerian Economy and was obtained from Central Bank of Nigeria statistical bulletin. The findings revealed that ridge regression and PCR are good regression estimation methods for predicting GDP. From the models there is strong indication that fish production in Nigeria is too insufficient to sustain...

R&D Report 1967-24 : An investigation of the law of displacement and of width of a stereophonic image for male speech H.D. Harwood An account is given of the present position, both in theory and practice, regarding the relation between the displacement of a stereophonic image and the corresponding interchannel difference in level. The disagreement amongst published results is indicated. Experiments are described which show that for male speech this relation is largely independent of the...

Information and communication technologies (ICT), like all technologies, are catalysts for political change and potential conflict. The Internet effect continues to fuel the explosive growth of ICT, and has enduring implications. It has sparked the long fuse of an Information Revolutionand a Social Network Revolution. R&D Report 1966-15 : Compatible single-sideband modulation: Experimental investigation of the performance with conventional AM receivers. J.B. Izatt A laboratory investigation is described of the overall performance of a compatible single sideband (c.s.s.b) system when used with current types of domestic receivers. The systems employs an alternative method of amplitude modulation to that normally used in the l.f., m.f. and h.f. broadcasting bands, the sideband on one side of the carrier...

R&D Report 1977-40 : Audio non-linearity: an initial appraisal of a double comb-filter method of measurement. R.A. Belcher A new objective method of measuring non-linear distortion of sound signals is described. It uses a test signal comprised of two pseudo-random noise signals whose spectrum occupies most of the audio band. Distortion is measured by using two comb-filters to separate the test-noise signal from distortion products. The method gives better correlation with subjective test...

In the tests, the number of sound channels varied from one (mono) to five (three front channels and two surround channels). The improvement in quality obtained by increasing the number of front channels from two...

R&D Report 1965-43 : Transmission of 625-line television signals in Bands I and III S.M. Edwardson The 625-line transmission standard used in the United Kingdom employs r.f. channels 8 Mc/s wide, which could not be accommodated in the v.h.f. Bands I and III without reducing the number of channels available. Two proposals have been made for modifying the standard to enable the existing 5 Mc/s channels to be used. In the first proposal, the video-frequency bandwidth of approximately 4.5. Mc/s...

Conventional near-shore large-scale hydrographic surveys use only two lines of position (LOPs) for position fixing. Previous works have proved that accuracies needed to meet the present International Hydrographic Organizations standards are frequently not achieved using conventional surveying methods. The concept of using multiple lines of position (MLOP) adjusted by the least squares method was described. Actual field measurements acquired in the autumn of 1984 were processed to ascertain the...
