The Van Wert Iris Gardens

Lee R. Bonnewitz, Proprietor

VAN WERT, OHIO

The first printing of our 36-page illustrated
Iris catalog, having become exhausted, we are
waiting until the information compiled by the
officers of the American Iris Society becomes
available, to revise and publish a new edition
which we hope will be of interest to all Iris
enthusiasts. We are also anxious that our new
catalog shall have the benefit of personal ob-
servation of Dominion, Madame Gaudichau, Am-
baS'Sadeur, Magnifica and twenty other newly
imported varieties which are expected to bloom
in our gardens during May and June, this year.
And so instead of a catalog we are sending out
at this time a price list, which we hope will
be followed by a new catalog during the sum-
mer months.

THE CLASSES AND THE NAMES

There is still considerable uncertainty in the
classification of Irises and in their nomencla-
ture. Until the American Iris Society has com-
pleted along this line, the wmrk that has been
begun, we can only assure our patrons that the
utmost possible carefulness is exercised to send
out plants true to name and description. Should
mistakes, however, occur, the amount originally
paid will be refunded.

THE TERMS OP SALE

Roots sent out in the spring are very much
larger than those sent in the summer and
autumn, because each plant has still attached
to it, two, three or more young plants and so

we ask that shipments may be made by express.

If you wish your shipment sent by Parcel
Post, include 5 cents extra for each plant.

If you wish several plants of a variety, you
may multiply the price of a single root by 10
to find the dozen price. As few as three plants
may be ordered at the dozen rate.

Please send cash with order, as it saves
bookkeeping expense.

No substitutions will be made, and money will
be refunded for every plant which can not be
furnished.

In addition to forming fine edging for beds
and borders most of these, particularly the
Pumilas, are splendid plants for the rock gar-
den. They usher in the season by beginning
to bloom, with extraordinary profusion, and
prettily, as a rule, early in April. Like all the
Intermediates and the Tall Bearded they thrive
in dry places, endure partial shade and like
lime.
