INTELLIGENCE MEMORANDUM 

Situation in the Dominican Republic

1. Further information on the arrival of 
airborne troops at San Isidro airfield indicates 
that landing and deplaning will require about four 
hours. The size of the contingent which has been 
sent and will be on the ground at about 0615 
Washington time is 1,985. The US has announced 
that it is taking urgent action to provide food, 
medical supplies and emergency hospital facilities 
for the Dominican Republic. 

2. Reporting from the US Chancery indicates 
relative quiet for several hours, followed by a 
short period of sniper f ire . Telephone service 
has become steadily worse, making contact with 
Dominican nationals increasingly difficult. 

3. Through a Caracas radio station, Bosch 
has broadcast a further appeal to the rebels to 
continue "the most heroic battle that has been 
fought in this century" against "the reactionary 
forces of crime . "
