The first Government-wide program to spotlight 
top-caliber career women in the Federal service was 
announced today (October 11) by United states Civil Service 
Commissioner Barbara Bates Gunderson. 

Ubder the program being launched by the Federal 
Woman's Award Board of Trustees, of which Commissioner 
Gunderson is chairman, six outstanding career women will 
be honored at public ceremonies late in February. Federal 
age ncies are being notified to submit nominati ons fir the 
award to the Board of Trustee's by Decembelgir

Increasingly since World Wer II, departments end 
agencies of the Determent have depended upon *«»-■ de- 
pendable women civil servants at hi* levels of responelbmty," 
Commissioner Gunderson said In announcing the eatabllahment 
of the first woman'. Award for the Federal service. "This 
fact Is well known within Oovemment, and it' s time the 
general public knew more about such women."
