Mr. Douglas B. Fugate
tommissioner
Department of Highways
Richmond, Virginia 222 19

Dear Mr. Fugate;

, ^

You will recall conversations with Caiooei L. K. White, our Executive Director,
cm 1 November 1967 concerning the possibility of your Department's being he] pail in
endeavoring to relieve traffic congestion at the inter section of chain Bridge Road and
Virginia Highway 123 . It was agreed at that meeting that this matter should be dis-
cussed with the property owners most immediately affected. Dr. and Mrs . Trowbridge,
and we committed ourselves to have our representatives meet with the Trowbridge
family to acquaint them with the problem . This has now been done and C olonel White
has asked that 1 communicate with you on this matter .

Representatives of this Agency met with Dr . and Mrs . Trowbridge on 9 January
1968, acquainted them with oar proposal, and obtained their concurrence in consider -
teg ohahgbqp the location of the present access read to their property. This is aa
important I hmea in this consideration inasmuch as, as we understand ft, if this
access road can be relocated it would reduce somewhat the cost of re taining walls
required to enlarge the turning radius of Chain Bridge Road and Rente 123 . The relo-
cation of this access road, however, will also involve the concurrence of two other
contiguous property owners, across whose land aa easement would have to he obtained
in order to relocate the access road in question.

inasmuch as Dr , and Mrs . Trewfarkige have agreed to consider proposal,
Iwoeld like to request that you authorize your local Fairfax County Resi dent Engineer,
Mr. Stetx, to establish contact with the 1 row bridge family, as well as the other two
property owners, to explore this possibility in greater technical depth. We shall be
happy, should you so desire, to introduce Mr. Brett to the Trowbridge family and also
to be helpiui isteap other manner which may accomplish the relief of toe traffic con-
gest ton problem we ere try toe to solve.

sincerely.
