TARGET HITS AND MISSES\ (o;

The Readers Wrifre:

The Editors Write:

Dear Readers:

Happenings in comic maga-
zines are unusual, it is frue,
buf real life also treats us to
surprising turns of events.
Whoever thought that picking
milkweed floss would be a
means of contributing to vic-
tory in warfare' That sounds
impossibie. yet for the past
few weeks many TARGET
readers in New England, in the
Middie Atlantic and South At-
lantic States as far south as
Virginia, in all the East North
Central states, in Minnesota,
lowa and Misscuri. have been
picking milkweed pods. sioring
them in open-mesh onion bags
and following Dept. of Agricul-
ture instructions for ship-
ments. Milkweed floss is an
efficient substitute for kapok
in life belts. flying suits, emer-
gency liferafts.

If you have an opportunity
'td ?gther milkweed pods, bet-
ter- 'get going" fast — as soon
as you have checked with your
locai War Board or county agri-
cuitural agent for information
about drying and packing the
pods properiy.

With all your busy acttvities
in war work. your saving of
fats, tin cans, and waste paper,
yo'j'll want to relax with your
favorite comic. Try the new
feature "Q's and A's" in this
issue of TARGET for extra
fun. Always see if you can an-
swer the question before you
look at the opposite page for
the answer Iprinted upside
down). Write us what you
think of the new game. How
about the questions— are they
too easyP Too hard? Shall we
put more Q's and A's in future
issues of TARGET?

Cordially yours.
