Why is flash memory important to digital music players? The average digital music player
comes equipped with 16MB of memory. At a usage rate of 1MB per minute of audio, this
memory is quickly consumed. It takes a minimum of 32MB of flash memory (CompactFlash™
or SmartMedia™) to store an entire CD. With additional cards, users can create customized
playlists, usingseparate cards for exercise music, easy listening, party mixes, and so on.

Why is flash memory important to digital cameras? The quality and resolution of digital
images are rapidly improving with the release of each new model of digital camera. Higher
resolution images require higher capacity flash memory. High-capacity flash memory cards act
as additional rolls of film giving the user the option to store more higher quality photos.

How many images can be stored on a CompactFlash™ or SmartMedia™ card? Digital
cameras can typically take pictures in different resolutions which employ different compression
settings and file formats. The higher theresolution of the image, the more memory it requires,
and therefore, the fewer images will fit on a memory card. For example, a 1 megapixel camera
can store 28 pictures on a 16MB flash card, while a 3 megapixel camera will only allow 14
pictures to be stored at best quality or best compression settings. You can consult your
camera user manual for further storage information.
