Do you remember when....

.Crystal Packett pulled Kyle

Fawver across the table in first
grade and kissed him ?

.Ken Marks used to have a big

imaginary friend “Tom”?

.Nathan Richards head was

busted open and bled for hours
because Shannon Carey slung the
baseball bat?

.Mrs. Roane used to throw

things at George Darby?

.George Darby was standing in

the corner in art class and stuck a
paper clip in the light switch and
the lights went out?

.Ms. Givings fainted in Ms.

France’s class in 1st grade?

.David Farone, Kevin Sydnor

and George Veney were told to
prune trees because they were
making animal noises in math?

A

The 1996 fall cheerleading squad actually started
practicing in July. In August, seven of the cheerleaders
attended the Eastern Cheerleading Association's camp
at UVA. They earned two excellent ratings and two
superior ratings. Liz Brann earned a nomination for
best all-around cheerleader for the camp. The busy fall
season included cheering for the girls' basketball and
varsity football teams, participating in the Warsawfest
Parade, organizing the pep rally for homecoming, and
supporting the football team in its regional competi¬
tion.

The 1996-97 boys' basketball season was also busy.
The boys' basketball squad — comprised of one senior
and seven freshmen — had many new experiences and
worked hard to meet common goals. At the same time,
members of both squads practiced in preparation for the
first Northern Neck District cheering competition.
RHS performed well at the tournament, placing third.
Cindy Barbee, Carrie Barker, Brittanny Evans, and
Laurie Whiteway represented Rappahannock on the
district All-Academic Squad. Liz Brann and Jessica
Gaines earned places on the All-District Squad.

The SG4 had a most successful year. There was a tremendous increase
of student participation in SCA activities. We sponsored Rappahan¬
nock's first Homecoming Queen and Court and our first all school
Spirit Week Parade. We also raised nearly one thousand dollars in our
Community Service Project. The only thing that marred our year was
the loss of our sponsor of twenty-seven years to retirement.

Debate

The debate team had a productive and growing
year during the 1996-97 season. We had several
returning debaters. This year we were able to
have a Switch team as well as Lincoln-Douglas
debaters. We continued attending Tidewater
Debate Tournaments in the Hampton Roads, as
we have done in the past. We didn't always come
home with trophies, but the tournaments proved
to be a rewarding growth experience. At season's
end, we had three debaters competing in the Dis¬
trict/Regional competition. Crystal Simpson
won the Lincoln-Douglas division and advanced
to the state competition. Nathan Richards and
Brittany Evans competed as a Switch team and
placed third. We look forward to continued suc¬
cess next year.

hamper the activities as the members visited several
of the sights there. Later in the year , Art and Rob
tied in the Algebra II contest at RCC. Several
students from all grades participated in the Virginia
Math League Competitions. The students took a
thirty minute contest several mornings and had a
high standing in the state.

In Memory Of

Baron Wesley Greene

So Brief Our Days V y JL

j0 * - ,A A

So brief ouq days, so very brief
Like an autumn rose with its falling leaf,
A moment's light, a glance of sun
And then our pilgrimages done.

As the rainbow fades in the summer sky
As the green grass flourishes to die
This moment's triumph, too, will wane
* And none shall call it back agaiM
Write quickly, then, while the candle glo
A little while and the book will closer
Go carve your figure of renown
For soon you must lay your chisel down
Use well this hour's joy, its grief —

For life is brief, so very brief.
